“Overnight Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Stayed here for one night recently would have been nice to have stayed for longer, staff extremely helpful and pleasant breakfast by far the best I have had in hotels, rooms are small but bear in mind this is an old building so there really isn't a lot they can do about, that they were perfectly adequate for sleeping in. Only negative comment I have is regarding the trip advisor card attached to the bill don't really think in an establishment this good that touting for reviews is necessary, other than that look forward to the next visit.

The staff in this hotel and very friendly and helpful. The Bar is nicely designed and they have a great cocktail selection and they are not too expensive either. Food was very tasty and great price. Hotel is located just of shop street so it is right in the city centre.

I wanted to love this place, but I really didn't care for it much at all. First, the good things: The decor is funky and interesting, nice rainforest shower head, and we had excellent breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant. Now for the stuff I didn't like as well.... We had a hard time finding it, which could happen anywhere, but if they know it's hard to find they could do a better job on their website describing how to get there. The car park is 2-3 blocks away, but they say you can stop in front of the hotel to drop off bags and then go park. With the one-way streets it was impossible to figure out how to get to the tiny drop-off spot, so we parked and lugged our bags down to the hotel. The whole parking situation is confusing because the people at the garage told us something different than the people at the hotel told us. The hotel only gives a tiny discount anyway. I had to remind the woman who checked us into the hotel that we had a dinner included in our package. She looked it up and gave us two vouchers for dinner (as in 2 people 2 nights, not just 2 people one night as it should have been). The waitress said if we had used both, we would have ended up with an extra charge on our credit card. After walking around the city and coming back tired, we found that our electronic key cards wouldn't open our door. we had to go back downstairs and explain, at which point the woman at the desk asked us "Well how long are you supposed to be here?" What? She couldn't assume we weren't overstaying our welcome and just look it up? She replaced our keys but didn't so much as apologize for the inconvenience. The room itself was small, which is generally not a problem for us, but they had more funky furniture in there and it took up too much space, to the point where we had to dodge one bedside stand. There was a wet washcloth in our bathroom. (Used or clean but not dry? We weren't about to try to guess.) The lights were on some kind of a weird system so they were all linked together, which meant in the middle of the night when one of us had to use the bathroom ALL the lights went on! We probably could have figured that out if we'd been there a little longer and put some time into it. The bathroom door was a smoked glass with a bit of a gap between the glass and the doorframe when it was "closed", resulting in a lapse in bathroom privacy that wasn't a huge deal for us, but I can imagine several scenarios where that could be quite uncomfortable. (Friends traveling together, other people visiting in your room, having room service come when one person was in the bathroom, etc.) When we checked out the bill did not include an extra 5 Euro charge from the dining room two nights earlier. I told them about it, but they insisted it wasn't in the computer. Fine - it was in my favor, but I wasn't at all sure it wasn't going to show up on my card after all. It didn't, but it just showed how poorly their system seemed to work.

Stayed 2 nights in the House Hotel in September.
The lady at check in was excellent. There was a deal which was better than the package we had booked and she offered us the better/cheaper package. That was an example of real customer service.
We were on the second floor. The room was very nice but not large. I would not call the room small, just not very big!!
Bathroom was modern and clean, the shower was good and the bed was very comfortable.
On the Monday morning we were woken by rubbish being collected. It is a town centre hotel so I suppose you will have some noise.
Breakfast was very tasty, cooked to order, with a large variety of fruit, bread, pastries etc.
Will certainly be back

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the busy road

I booked a meal here for a family event. I had reserved an area in the lounge area first and dinner in the restaurant after. When we arrived the lounge area was cold so I asked the manager if it was possible to put the heat up. He did so and it was more comfortable. One thing I found a bit strange about the restaurant was that the TV was on in the background and this did not add to the atmosphere at all. Also the background music was noisy and harsh however the manager did change it at my request. We went for the three course meal which is very good value. The food was delicious. However I did order four side dishes for the group and that never arrived. The waiting staff apologised and offered complimentary tea and coffee. Overall our experience was made positive by the really nice flavoursome food but the management and waiting staff could do with paying a little more attention to the service delivery and to the little things that make a difference.

We are staying here now and so far everything has been perfect. The room is comfy, love the reading chair, good shower although a bit small. Nice decor, simple with a little flair. I have heard the breakfast is good too!

Just returned from 2 fabulous days at the house hotel. Fantastic situation right at the bottom of shop street so you can park the car and not have to take it out for either shopping, restaurants or pubs. The decor is quirky, and the food absolutly fantastic, especially the breakfast. We booked a deal including breakfast one lunch and one dinner with 2 nights and it was great value. The bistrot at night was lovely and candles with the lovely seating made for a great atmosphere. The restaurnat staff were lovely, great sevice. The only down side was that i had emailed the hotel 2 over a few days and never got a reply, i eventaually rang and was told they never received my emails..i double checked the address and it was right, you maybe they should have a look at this as if i was only enquiring i prob would have gone elsewhere. Overall have a great few days and would recommend it .. so hard to find a little boutique hotel like this !!
