I booked a three night stay with friends at the Seashore Lodge after reading the rave reviews on TripAdvisor. I have to say, I was quite disappointed and this is probably the worst bed and breakfast that I have ever stayed in.
First, this bed and breakfast is NOT located within walking distance of downtown Galway, unless you want to walk for over 45 minutes. It is barely located within walking distance of downtown Salthill. After arriving at the bus station in Galway, my friends and I had to take a 13 Euro cab to the Lodge. The only practical way to reach this place is by bus or cab.
Upon arrival, we were not offered the tea/cookies as promised, and were instead told to make it in our room. I went to go put some water in the pot, and to my utter disgust, there was yellow water and mold growing in the teapot (I actually went to an empty room and checked their teapot, and it was also moldy). So much for my tea. I then went to go hang clothes in the closet, and all of the handles on the door fell off. After that, my friends went to turn on the tv, and it didn't work. We also tried to use the free wi-fi, and had no signal. Any time that we wanted to use the Internet, we had to go downstairs to the sitting room. There were dead bugs on the bathroom floor. We booked a triple room, but one of the beds had sunk in the middle, so we had to double up in one bed. It seems like this place needs a bit of updating.
Noreen asked us if we wanted an Irish breakfast, or Continental for the next morning, and we all chose Continental. The next morning I walked downstairs for my breakfast and there was cereal and fruit available. My friends and I took some fruit, which turned out to be soft and bruised. I was afraid to eat the cereal with milk after the teapot experience, so I asked for toast, yogurt, and cheese. I was served Diet yogurt in a container, and processed cheese still in the plastic wrap (like Kraft singles)! I just ate the toast, and was then told that I should be "fed for the day"! I have never experienced such a poor breakfast at a bed and breakfast before. The next day Noreen didn't even offer us the Irish breakfast, or yogurt, or cheese, and I was stuck with just toast again. I could have stayed somewhere cheaper and went out to breakfast. I also noticed that NO ONE was offered/eating the Irish breakfast and all tables were just eating cereal and toast.
The only pros that I can think of is that Noreen is very helpful with booking tours. The Lodge is also across from the Bay (if that's what you want), but under no circumstances is it walking distance to town. Overall, I was very disappointed in the Seashore Lodge and would never stay there again.
