This hotel was in a nice location compared to the B&B row which was too far away. The breakfast was really efficient and the hotel itself was nice. We did have a smoking room which wasn't the best but other than that it seemed fine. We did not have to use a taxi the entire time we were there and the town is fun at night.

I have stayed at The Western a fair few times now over the past couple of years while doing business in Galway and I feel compelled to write a review as a response to the one below because I've never had a bother here at all. I have never had any major issues in the western- I have stayed during the summer peak times- where yes it may be a little noisier- but if you request a quiet room I found the girls on the desk pretty helpful in trying to sort me out as best they could-as well as the quiet months.

In fairness, I've never had a problem with the breakfast, I assume the guest below was just unlucky, but I look forward to my full Irish in the morning and its never once been below par. I only once had an issue with a room, the tv just wouldn’t work for me so I rang down to reception and 5 minutes later I was moved to the room next door. No big fuss. On the plus side I'm always freezing and the room was nice and warm.

The hotel is in a perfect location for me- its just up from Eyre Square and the free car-park is also a blessing- tip- if you are visiting Galway make sure your hotel has car-parking as it’s a nightmare to find a space in the city- and though some hotels may advertise that they do, this is usually not always free.

I would have no problem recommending the western- the staff are friendly, the rooms are clean, spacious and decently priced, the car-park is great and the food in the restaurant is pretty tasty!

Stayed the week of the galway races and other than being overpriced it was fine. Clean, lovely staff other than the receptionist who thinks shes a very inportant person, It was great. Would recommend it.

Other than providing a decent breakfast, this hotel is the pits... I stayed in room 304... there is no airconditioning so the room was rather stuffy. There was no internet connection in the particular room i was staying in (I was told that the walls were too thick for them to put a cable through and that they were looking into it), and the only place where i could get onto the Internet was in the lobby on the first floor. And even then, they tend to turn off the wireless network every now and then which makes it very frustrating.

Decorwise... if you like old, musty places then this hotel is for you. Creaky wooden stairs, uneven flooring, stains on bedsheets, poor lighting, uncomfortable chairs, noisy corridors... in short, this place stinks. Unless you have a masochistic streak, or if you have a penchant for proving how tough you are... AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE PLAGUE!!!
