“Great Find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

What a great place. Going into reception we thought it was a hostel type place. Turned out to be a really nice hotel. The rooms were perfect, the bar and restaurant were both excellent, and indoor parking for our motorbikes was available free. A real value.

Recommend by tourist information and had vacancies. Everything we needed for an overnight stay in Galway. Competitively priced, well presented room, car park which was important as we travelled by motorbike. Service first class and friendly. Would visit again.

We had a good experience in this hotel. The staff were nice, parking was not a problem and we found the car park easily. There are some areas that are a bit tired in the public areas and although our room was clean and tidy, the carpet was a bit stained, the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling and the bath panel was a bit chipped. Just a bit tired. Room size ok, just bog standard furniture. Some noise from the smoking area, but hotel generally quiet and no problem getting a good night's sleep. Wi Fi is rubbish even on first floor and you have to hang out of the window. Lovely scones at breakfast - but wasted a bit as nobody really wants scones for breakfast.

I would suggest you park your car first then go to the Western Hotel to get the key & car park key. You can park across the road in the multi story shopping car park for Euros2. Then once you have your keys you exit the shopping car park and drive straight across the road to the Citipoint underground car park level-2 you can then easily get the lift to your floor. The apt was spacious with comfortable furniture. If you use the washer/dryer allow enough time so that it not still going at midnight. Handy to shops & town centre. The kitchen could do with a new frypan & the bedroom window lock was broken. Otherwise had the basics for your stay

Terrific venue in great spot within walking distance of the city with car parking. Staff were great. Pleasant, obliging and extremely helpful. Breakfast was great. Rooms are large and well presented. Highly recommended.

We arrived in Galway on a late and stormy night. We could not get into the hotel no matter how much we knocked. We finally had to call the hotel. After about 12 rings the phone was answered. After explaining that we could not get in, the guy hung up. He came out a few minutes later and my husband went in and sent me and the kids to the car. While we were waiting a group of people showed up and also couldn't get in. It was pouring and these people had to stand there and knock. My husband finally came out and got back in the car and said "no way". He had looked at the room. Everything was worn and dirty. He said the beds were the worst and the bathroom was marginal at best. To make matters worst he said it smelled like some one was smoking marijuana. Don't know if someone was but the smell is pretty distinct. We left and finally took two rooms at the Raddison.

We stayed in these apartments which are linked to the Western Hotel in May 2013 and they are a few doors down in what looks like an old office block. Arriving in Galway by train, the apartments are about a 10 minute walk (up a slight hill so takes a bit longer with luggage) and are just off Eyre Square so the location couldn't be better. You check in via the hotel and they give you your keys and instructions on how to get in. They are big and spotlessly clean, with large beds and have a lovely view out towards Galway Bay. The washing machine/drier is particularly useful if you’re staying there for any length of time. The lounge walls are predominantly floor to wall windows so anyone with vertigo (as one member of my family has) may not care to venture over to them very often. The hotel/apartment staff and very helpful and helped us out with a problem – due to aforementioned vertigo! They are also very close to the coach station (about a 5 minute walk down a hill directly opposite the Western Hotel) which is where all the excursions with Lally tours or Galway tours leave from to Connemara, Burren, Cliffs of Moher etc. so this is really handy. It’s also only about 10 minutes’ walk to the nightlife and the lovely restaurants in the Latin Quarter. The only negative I can think of is that you can usually hear people coming back to other apartments, so if you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs. I would definitely recommend these to anybody holidaying in Galway and I can’t wait to go back one day.
