I was staying at the Western recently in October with my husband and im really surprised with all those bad reviews this hotel gets?! Our stay was just excelent! First impression that you get at the reception may be not that great as its small and oldfashion, but once in the room you cannot believe thats the same place. Our room was on second floor, with balcony, nice and spotless.Spacious bathroom. There was internet access in the room. We could get good night sleep, no noises from the street, no from the bar. It was Wednesday and receptionist told us about the Irish dancing that they have every week, it was great - about 30 people dancing the same steps! Everyone was friendly and they even invited us to dance with them! Next morning we got great breakfast in really stylish breakfast room. We decided to extend our stay in Galway for another night. This time we were told that there is traditional music in the bar at 9:30. It was quiet at the beginning but around 10:00 people started to come with their instruments and at the end of the night there was 16 or more musicians! Again great experience. We went to Ireland to see as much of its coulture as possible and I have to say that the Western turned out to be just the place we were looking for. All staff was really friendly, It felt like i would be staying in my friends house rather than in the hotel. I can reccomend the place to everyone and for sure I will stay there during my next visit to Galway!

Unbelievable. After spending about twelve hours walking and sight seeing, my husband and I were looking forward to a good nights rest. However the hotel hosted a 21st birthday party that lasted till 1am. No warning, to us. There was a DJ for the party making it even more noisy, never mind the people stomping on the hardwood floors which made our room shake. Then when the party ended the people were still around screaming until 2.

We stayed in September 2007
The sheets were clean and that all.
We where awake all night from noise of the road, people coming in at 3 and 4 am. Drunks the kids outside I can go on and on.
And to top it all the hotel was aweful. I will never go there again.
My heart sank too.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights last week with my boyfriend and another couple.
I have to say my heart sank when i saw the room. We were put on the top floor of the hotel....room 406.....the whole look of that floor was just old and worn. Our door would barely open and the key was a nightmare. The en-suite was accepteble however the bed provided in the room was insulting. Old worn, small and the covers were hideous. Even came with smoke burn.The room looked nothing like the pictures on their website.
And what can i say about the noise in the place and from the street...its right beside a building site and the road sweeper starts about 5am!!!!!
You cant even order your breakfast to your room.
Seriously for 280 euro i would have expected more...please please please avoid this hotel....The room was a dump!!!!!
It was a great location and has the potential to be fantastic........

Good basic room, well located in the city of Galway. Right off Eyre Square and near the bus station. We came in by bus from Shannon and it was an easy walk over to the hotel. The room was tiny, but probably normal for the area. The breakfast was good. Free internet access in their pub in the lobby was a nice convenience. It was a bit expensive compared to other places we stayed in the rest of the country, but it was our only city location so perhaps it is normal.
