Auburn House was lovely; very modern, clean and friendly. Mary and her family made us feel very welcome and were helpful with directions and advice. Breakfasts were wonderful. We also appreciated the internet access. We had a car and the location was fine, plus there is a bus stop next to the house. The room with 2 beds was a good size and the bathroom was fine. We would definitely stay there again.

Aug 3, 2008 | Trip type: Family

I've mentioned in another review that our family is a bit reluctant to stay at B&Bs because we feel (unrealistically or not) that we're imposing on our hosts. When we read the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor regarding Mary and Roddy and Auburn House, we knew it would be the right place for shy people!

We traveled in Europe for more than 3 weeks with 4 older kids (two 20-year-old girls. our 16-year-old son and 13 year old daughter). We stayed at Auburn House only one night at the beginning of our trip (Night #3 out of 23). Throughout the rest of our travels, we ALL looked back on our stay at Auburn House as our best B&B or hotel experience in all 23 nights. On night #4, we were traumatized by an emotionally unstable "innkeeper." At the time, the kids said (only half-joking): "Maybe we should drive back to Galway and tell Mary and Roddy! THEY'LL make everything better!"

Thank you, Mary and Roddy, for making our family feel welcome. We enjoyed Galway so much, and will always equate it with the warmth we felt at Auburn House.

  • Liked — The hospitality and warmth of our hosts
  • Disliked — Not far from downtown Galway, but wish it were closer

The Auburn House is a special place, Mary (the owner) being a very very friendly person which makes you feel like you are at home. The house is quite new and the rooms are very comfortable. They also have internet access which is great to check the weather forecast and send/read your emails. I've got one little negative comment, since the house is close to a main boulevard it is somewhat noisy (cars) but if you close the window you will sleep well.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely B & B just outside Galway. Our group of 10 was treated like family by Mary and Roddy Wyer, the owners.
We only stayed one night but will definitely go back in the future.
Very clean, great breakfast, and all the touches of home.

We booked this B&B because of the wonderful reviews. Yes, the hosts are very nice and the breakfast was tasty. The room we stayed in had twin beds and was tiny-- we had to stack our two suitcases. The bathroom was modern but since we were on the top floor, the ceiling slopped in the bathroom and so it seemed claustrophobic in the shower for someone 5'10.

The side of the property where our room was located faces a very busy main street and we couldn't sleep with the windows open because the traffic was loud even into the night.

If I was booking again in Galway I would book something closer to the center of town-- this place was about 3km into town-- and on a quieter street.
