The Stop is a lovely surprise just the right distance from the main drag in hyper Galway. As soon as you walk in, you know this is someone's special project. Far from the creak of the standard B & B, The Stop is bright and friendly, with a spacious downstairs lounging room full of art books, where you can make a cuppa and eat a homemade biscuit yourself. There's a lot to be said for that. The bedrooms may possibly be a work in progress as the downstairs funkiness doesn't travel upstairs, but they are solidly unfussy and comfortable, something to be grateful for. Breakfast is a charmer full of health and decadence - scrambled egg and feta cheese, muesli and homemade bread. Overseeing the cheery ambiance are Ross and Emer, who look to be enjoying themselves immensely and pass this happiness on to all those lucky enough to book in with them. Don't expect luxury or finger clicking 5 star carry on - but you will be happy to find sanctuary in this very reasonably priced bed and breakfast. Somehow, the name The Stop really suits it too, it's a special place.

Room Tip: The higher you go, the quieter it will be.

We absolutely loved this B&B. Russell offered an excellent orientation to the home and city upon arrival with a map personalized with his favorite places to go (all of which we enjoyed!). While we were there, my husband locked the keys in our rental and Vicki and Russel made many calls on our behalf which was much appreciated and very accommodating!! The location is very convenient and the beds very comfortable. Would recommend this place to anyone.

My daughter and I stayed at the stop b&b at Kilcullen House recently and had a lovely time. Great location, nice accommodations, and Russell and Emer are wonderful hosts. They were helpful with everything from ferry tickets to restaurant recommendations. Fabulous breakfasts too!

We felt sad to leave after 5 days at The Stop at Kilcullen House. Best of all was the feeling of being welcomed and cared for. Russell greeted us and got us settled in. His map of the neighbourhood and downtown Galway included many restaurants we tried and enjoyed, so we had healthy, flavourful and beautifully prepared food throughout our stay. Our room was bright, spotlessly clean, and well-equipped. The bed was very comfortable, and coverings were suited to the weather. The style of The Stop suited us: clean, modern, artsy, and very thoughtful. It seemed as though it attracted like-minded travellers, and we really enjoyed getting to know the young couples, families, and older couples like ourselves who were also guests.
Russell and Emer took a few days off while we were there, and Sinead, another family member, took over. She was amazing, calm and capable as she responded to the needs of so many guests. She booked tours for many of us, did our laundry, found time for conversations, and still managed to keep the house in lovely shape. It was the little details that added up--things like the small vase of fresh flowers on every table in the morning and the individual Bodum of beautiful coffee.
All in all, we had the sense these people were doing the work they were meant to do. They have created an inviting and relaxed B and B by paying attention to detail and by truly enjoying and caring for their guests.

Room Tip: We liked the room at the back, away from the noise of cars on the street.

Our stay at the Kilcullen House in Galway was really lovely. A friend and I stayed for two nights while traveling around Ireland -- and we wished we could have stayed longer! Arranging our stay via email from the States was very easy, and Russell was extremely prompt with his replies. REALLY appreciated that! We arrived in Galway via bus. Because we had luggage, we opted to take a taxi to the B&B, but it only cost 5-7 euro, and was worth it to not have to carry our bags a distance. The Kilcullen House is nicely located, a short walk from the main part of town, just over the bridge. It is also an easy walk to the Salthill Promenade. If you plan to take a tour (highly recommend doing the day tour to the Cliffs of Moher!), they will pick you up right out side the B&B. Super convenient! What's more, our hosts helped us book our tour for the next morning, even with our late arrival to Galway. We very much appreciated that!

Close by the Kilcullen House is a wonderful, charming restaurant called Ard Bia at Nimmos. It was a bit on the expensive side for traveling students, but absolutely worth it. Great place to eat while staying at this B&B!

Russell, Emer, Vicki, and all the other employees we met were very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The Kilcullen House feels warm and homey as soon as you walk in. Our room was impressively clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small, but the shower had good water pressure and the water was hot. We didn't spend very much time in our room, so no complaints there at all. Breakfast was delicious, with several options (you can't go wrong!). The Irish soda bread was incredible! There is also a nice common room for guests to use. Wifi is reliable. Overall, the Kilcullen House was a fantastic find and lived up to expectations from positive reviews on trip advisor. I highly recommend a stay here while in Galway. Thanks a million to Russell and Emer for your hospitality! :)

I recently stayed at the Kilcullen House while travelling with my family for 2 nights. The rooms were very well maintained and the proximity to the town center was more than ideal. We really enjoyed our stay and Russell was a fantastic host willing to help with any of our needs. I would definitely stay here again.

Emer was baking when we arrived so we immediately got that homey feeling right when we came in. She gave my husband directions to the parking area at the back and then took us to our room. She offered to take one of our luggage up the stairs which was really nice because we really did not expect our hosts to carry our luggage. The room was (most important) clean and functional and yes, it's on the smallish side but we expected that. We even expected the tiny bathroom. Emer gave us their map with their recommended restaurants and pubs to go to - very much appreciated. I needed my rice fix and so we ended up going to the recommended noodle house. I hesitate to go to chinese restaurants in places I don't know but as it was recommended, so we went. Great recommendation! Emer also took our breakfast order and the 3 of us (hubby, son, and myself) each order a different one. Vegetarian for my husband, french toast for my son, and the Irish breakfast for me. I asked Emer to make it a small portion and she assured me that they go for quality, not quantity. Well, sure enough, the portions were just perfect and they were delicious. My son told us it was his favorite breakfast in this vacation and he is a very picky eater. Oh, and those roasted tomatoes were great!
As mentioned by other reviewers, the location was very convenient to the city center. We liked that. On our first day of sightseeing, Russ asked us what our plans were. When I told him we were going to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, he immediately got a map for us and gave suggestions. He recommended a restaurant which we would not have found if not for his directions. Our GPS failed us. Russ, thanks for recommending Morans Oyster Cottage. We loved that restaurant too! On our second day, before we left for our sightseeing, I just went and told Russ where we planned to go expecting for him to make comments and suggestions of course, which he did. Unfortunately, there wasn't time enough to see everything and so we had to miss Roundstone. Well, there's the excuse to go back. When we do, we'll definitely stay at "the stop" again. Thank you Russ and Emer for being such wonderful hosts. Emer, the night I remembered about the cookies, I think I ate the last 4 in the jar.
