Very happy with the rooms. Spacious, modern and well appointed. Beds were quite comfortable. Bathrooms were clean with good water pressure and plenty of towels. Appreciated the free parking. Still had the feeling of "new" to everything.

Location is a plus/minus. Easy to find but it is in a more commercial area and the congestion of trafiic in the morning and afternoon is challenging (don't make a wrong turn or it will be awhile to get straigthened around). However once inside, you are not even aware of it and as others have pointed out you are a rather short distance from the city centre.

Food in the restaruant was fine. Disappointed in the service. Appeared that they were under staff for the volume of business they were doing. Bar area seemed comfirtable, but had more of a "business air" to it than vacation. Traveling business people hanging out after work.

Courtyard by Marriot was a real nice hotel. They have modern bar and restaurant (I prefer the coziness of a pub). Rooms were clean and real nice. However, here is the big problem. They are on the outskirts of town and there is nothing local going on. You are staying across the street from a car dealership and a roundabout which makes it quite busy. If you want to go to Eyre Square it costs around 10 euro for a one way taxi ride. When returning to Galway City, I will not be staying there as it is too far removed from the charm of Ireland.

I stayed here for one night before moving on to the House Hotel( which I have reviewed seperately)

Location: Possibly the only downside to the hotel located beside a roundabout on the outskirts of the town, about 15 minutes walk I have been told but we didnt venture outside the hotel on our nights stay

Rooms: Rooms were very spacious , very modern decor, with lovely bathrooms and all the usual touches, room service, iron hairdryer etc. but strangely missing a minibar

Staff: Staff were very pleasant although seemed a bit under pressure during check in as the desk was busy and there was only one member on

Facilities: We ate in the hotel restaurant that night which was suprisingly very nice and also drank in the bar, there was a great atmosphere as it was very busy and they had a local guy singing and playing the piano, it was unusually a very good atmosphere for a hotel bar.

Food: 8/10 for dinner, breakfast was also delivered to our room the next morning and was very good

Overall a great stay and excellent value for money, parking is free for hotel guests, the spa looks brilliant unfortunately we did not have the time to try it. The house hotel is double the price of the Marriott(whom I believe also own the house hotel?), I would say stay here instead and keep your money for taxis into town instead of staying in the house hotel!!

Totally agree with the other reviewers. Stayed here for a weekend in Jan07.
Wasn't sure at first about the location - on the edge of shopping malls - but its actually really convenient. Had a hire car (so the free underground parking had swung it for me) and had taken our TomTom from home. Big mistake! I dropped a friend off in town enroute from the airport - the traffic in Galway itself is madness - fri and sat afternoons it was gridlocked - plus the one way system has totally changed so TomTom couldnt cope in the town centre!
Apart from the drive along the Connemare coast (which the hotel is perfectly placed for) we left the car in the carpark. Its a 10-15 min stroll into the town centre (most of it along a main road) - and a 5 min cab home at night.
The hotel itself still feels brand new. Rooms are typical business class with all mod cons. Didn't spend much time at the hotel - too much to explore with it being our first time to Galway - but slept perfectly - and just got up intime for breakfast both mornings.
Given that we were late down both mornings - breakfast buffet was fine. Had to wait for some things to be refreshed on the Sat - but Sunday was great - and much busier.
Would definately stay there again. Hint - research the diff websites - most had the rate as room only - whereas I found it with breakfast included. Bargain.
