“The Manadalay was lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2006

Georgie, the B&B owner is quite pleasant and went out of her way to phone the tour bus company to make sure the tours picked me up at a place that was walking distance to the B&B. We did not have a car. It was nice to stay at a place owned by an American though Georgie has lived in Galway many years. The grandkids are noticeable but cute. This part of Galway is ritzy. I liked the view. I would have liked more water pressure in the shower.

After 15+ years, owners Sean and Georgianna Darby may have lost some enthusiasm for the B&B grind, doting instead on their quite noticeable grand-children. The ?sea? is two swans and a murky spit of a bay, seen traversed by a boy in sneakers at low tide.
For good reason, ?Georgie? pushes room 6 early in the day (?no stairs to climb?) since it?s really the drawing room off the porch and entry and would serve nicely as the breakfast room instead. It?s spacious, a bit crowded with family belongings, a good shower and tub, but a balky toilet and less privacy than upstairs. Breakfast is staple, short, can be crowded, and offers a view of yesterday?s sheets hanging to dry on the line out the window.
On the plus side, it?s an easy short access to Galway City via an Ocean Drive, by-passing downtown congestion. Alternately, there are short and stunning rides to Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, Achill Island in Mayo, or Shannon Airport to or from. Double-confirm your rate and reservation, since these can get lost in the families' busy everyday.
