“Modern large hotel on the sea front”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2009

This is a very nice hotel, with good views of the beach (depending of course on your room number). The room would cater well for the american market, it's very stylish, with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom.

The food in the hotel is extremely good but is seriously let down by the smallest menu I have ever seen; stay more than 3 days and you'll be repeating what you've already had!
Unlike the experience of the previous reviewer, during our stay the residents bar stayed open way into the early hours of the morning. The hotel staff were courteous, the bar staff were especially friendly and went out of their way to make sure you didnt wait long to be served.

The location is good, especialy if you have a car. For shopping or to visit other bars and restaurants, it's only a short walk into the main town of Salthill and Galway city is only 10 minutes or so away by car.

All in all a hotel to be recommended, just tell the chef to widen his menu a bit and this hotel would have got a 5!

  • Liked — The room was lovely and the bed really comfortable
  • Disliked — The restricted menu, ridiculous for a hotel this size

Our group of over 200 dominated the hotel for the October Bank Holiday weekend. For the money we spent in the hotel that weekend we were given a somewhat frosty reception, as some staff were quite rude. Residents bar closed early and drinks were very expensive and no receipts were provided even on request!

For the full 3days and nights all food served was superb, which is rare when you are catering for such a large crowd. The refurb of the main hotel was just finished the day before we arrived, but the leisure centre wasn't open yet.

Our bedroom was fantastic with a huge double bed!!!

A lovely part of the country but thats where it ends! The owners are not rude but not particularly pleasant either. Make sure you have cash with you as there are no bank machines near-by (although we were told there was one at a service station 2 mins walk away, when we got there we were told they didn't have one and it was actually 15 mins walk in the other direction) and he would not take a part payment until the morning. Being able to use a credit card would have been useful as our 1 tent for 2 nights cost 80 Euro!!!!!!

The toilets were dirty, there was no soap and nothing to dry your hands on. I had to use toilet roll to dry my hands but there was no rubbish bin. The showers were warm but the ceiling looked ready to fall through and there was slime dripping from the ceiling. The showers are open all day.... as long as you dont need a shower before 8am and after 9.30 pm!! The advertised play park consists of 1 slide.

Other than that did I mention that Galway is a lovely part of the country? Beautiful place to visit and the town is great to have a walk through, just don't say at Salthill Caravan Park!

Room and meals ok, but we were not informed that half of the hotel is still a building site, entrance very small, very loud music in the evening.

Stayed in the Salthill Hotel for two nights with a group of friends. We booked directly with the hotel and got a great deal for bed and breakfeast and one evening meal.

Check in was smooth and efficient. The room was mid size with quite a large bathroom. beds were very comfortable and the pillows were proper full pillows and not the very thin type that one usually finds in hotels. Breakfeast and Dinner were both impeccable, beautifully presented and more importantly tasted fab. I found every member of staff that I dealt with very helpfull and friendly.

I have stayed in many hotels in Salthill and around Galway city and this, in my opinion is the best. Definitely recommended.
