After traveling through lovely Ireland & staying in nearly a dozen B&Bs, the Petra House was by far the best. I think it may be the finest B&B in all of Ireland.
When you first enter the Petra House you will feel as if you're stepping into a fine gallery. It is brilliantly decorated and spotlessly clean yet warm and welcoming ~ I didn't want to leave!
Joan & Frank are wonderful people. I can not rave enough about their hospitality and kindness. Frank is the quintessential host who takes meticulous care of his guests and Joan's scones, sultana loaf and brown bread are to die for. The breakfasts were the absolute best I had on my trip ~ putting any restaurant to shame. Joan was even kind enough to share her bread recipes, which I have made, on several occasions, since returning home.
The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and cozy. All the little extra touches in the room (tea, coffee, biscuits, fine toiletries...) make you feel pleasantly pampered.
The day I left it was pouring rain and they insisted on giving me a lift to the bus depot. Where can you find that????
I guess it was a good thing that the Petra House was my last stop before returning to Shannon Airport and departing for home ~ had it been my first, I would have stayed there the entire time!
I look very forward to a return trip to dear Ireland and another lovely stay at the Petra House.

We stayed at this B&B for two nights and were thoroughly impressed.
The room was large and comfortable, absolutely spotless and had very good facilities including an iron and colour TV, which incidentally showed both Irish and British TV channels.
Our host was very friendly and welcoming, gave us advice about where to visit and lent us a roadmap for a day-trip, and the breakfast was copious and to an excellent standard. Be sure to sample some of the wonderful home-made brown bread!
On top of all this, the house is a mere 10 minute walk from Eyre Square and all the facilities of the city.
Heartily recommended!

Spent two nights at the Petra House in Galway. The accommodations were terrific and in a quiet area located a short ten minute walk from Eyre Square. Frank and Joan were quite friendly and made us feel at home. To top it off, the dog track was just up the block and we had a fun evening dining and betting on the hounds. Despite it's proximity to the track, we did not hear any noise at all. We would highly recommend the Petra House to anyone planning a trip to Galway.

We really enjoyed this little B&B. The hosts are extremely friendly and accomodating and the rooms, while basic but comfortable, had little touches that showed real thought, such as a good hair dryer and a clock radio. The walk into Galway took only 5 - 10 minutes, and the car parking area was very convenient. The breakfasts were delicious as well. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Charming B&B on the 'B&B row,' which is a nice walking distance into town - 5 mins. walk to Eyre Square. Frank, one of the owners, is a host extraordinaire - a real delight. The breakfasts were creative and delicious - many choices.

We took the ferry to Inishmoor for the day and rented bicycles - it was a wonderful thing to do and I highly recommend it to any visitors to Galway. Plan on buying your real Aran sweater there, and you can even buy a Claddagh ring in the Claddagh section of Galway.
