Where to begin... I must say that our stay in Galway was made by the fine proprietors of the Petra House. Frank and his wife have a wonderfully kept beautiful property and they are the kindest people. Frank serves breakfast and is a wonderful host, ensuring you have everything you want and cares for his guests. He is the quintessential host. I was amazed at his tolerance and kindness even in the face of a very annoying guest that just couldn't seem to stop talking to him or leave him to do his job. He has the temperament of a saint.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Not a complaint, but a note. If you use the shower, there is hot water. It just takes a little while to warm up so don't get frustrated if hot water doesn't come out right away. My room had a very comfortable bed and a little television. There is a teapot in the room as well as an iron and ironing board. You have all the amenities you would need.
Now to the highlight of the day. BREAKFAST! It's really filling and it's really good. If the restaurants in Galway wonder why lunchtime customers are sparse, they have to look no further than to the B&B proprietors like those at the Petra House. You had scones and bread at your table to start. Then you had a choice of fruit, oatmeal, or cold cereal. Any establishment that serves oatmeal with Irish Cream has got to be good. Then you had a choice of main courses. Believe me. The food was great and will easily tide you over until dinner time.
As far as prices went, it was 45 Euros per person. But they shaved off 5 Euros per person per day from our price since we stayed for 4 days.
Also, as to the location, it was perfect. About a 10 minute walk from the bus station and 15 minute walk to Eyre Square. I believed there were buses outside, but we didn't use it since it was so convenient to walk.
Also, the Petra House promotes tours. The Galway Tour Company were really wonderful, with the tour guide funny, witty, and thoroughly informative. (I wasn't a fan of the Guide's sing along, but it was cool otherwise.) We went to the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. If you would like to do a day trip, go with the Galway Tour Company. You won't regret it.
I loved the Petra House, and if I go to Galway, I will not stay at any other place. My only beef with the Petra House was that I had to leave.
