We are a young couple and travel often. We were very happy when we reached the Petra House during our stay in Galway. Since we decided not to rent a car, we walked from the bus station which was not a problem, just a few blocks from the city centre. At first the street looked a bit disappointing, many identical B&Bs lined up in a row but as soon we stepped inside and met the hosts and saw the place we were quite happy with our choice. The breakfast was far and above other B&Bs we stayed in Dublin and other parts of Ireland. The location was great- we walked everywhere. They had good tour suggestions and were polite. I highly recommend this B&B in Galway.

We also took an interesting walking tour with a local Galway grad student studying architecture and history we both truly enjoyed. We booked that through the visitors center.

Frank and Joan were the perfect hosts. Breakfast was first rate. I opted for the salmon and eggs both days and was not disappointed. Breakfast is accompanied by home made scones. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Parking, though on site, was a little tight. The location, though not central (which is good unless you like noise) is right near a college campus and is a short walk to Eyre Square and city center. Galway was one of our favorite locations. It has all that one could ask for from a medium sized city, but still has a town-like feel. It is very pedestrian friendly. The restaurants were outstanding. Try Oscar's across the river.

  • Liked — Food, bed, friendly owners
  • Disliked — parking, stairs (would be a problem for disabled people)

We stayed at Petra House for two nights and found it to be excellent in all areas. I did lot's of research online prior to booking and the property and hosts lived up to my high expectations. This BnB is perfect if you are driving to Galway because it has parking onsite but is walking distance from town centre. There are very few properties that offer this. You are either right in the centre but have to park away from the property or you are out of town with ample parking but have to bus/taxi into town. The welcome from Frank was warm but not overbearing like some BnB's I have stayed in. We were tired from a long drive and he took us straight to our lovely room on the top floor to relax. There was no pressure to socialise but he and Joan were about if you needed anything and there was ample literature in the halls for recommended sightseeing, dining etc. The place is immaculate and tastefully decorated, the rear garden is beautiful. The room we had was very spacious, comfortable and clean. The bed was large (queen size I think) and quite firm which we like - we slept well and there was no street noise. The bathroom was very clean and the shower very strong. I could rave on and on, but I must mention the breakfast because it was exceptional. They have an extensive menu with lots of fresh healthy options. After loads of fry ups elsewhere I was ready for porridge with maple syrup, fresh fruit salad and smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. Not to say the cooked breakfast was not good because Brian couldn't resist it day 2 and said it was great. We greatly enjoyed our stay at Petra House and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Galway.

This was our first B & B in Ireland & couldnt have been better. The room although not over large was spotless & comfortable and had everything we needed, tea /coffee iron & board which after a couple of days travelling was a welcome facility. The shower cubical was small but again the bathroom was spotless.
The breakfast was well cooked and pleanty choice with endless tea coffee & home made scones.Frank was helpful & welcoming. A first rate B & B.
