We (my wife and me) had an enjoyable 1 night stay in Petra House. We had some trouble finding it, and called Frank, the owner. He had us stay where we were (fairly close) and he drove to our location and guided us to his place.
The room was immaculate and very tastefully decorated. It overlooked their garden, which was in full bloom and beautiful. The bathroom was small, by US norms, but it was the same size as the other bathrooms in the B&Bs throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Frank was very helpful in getting us to an ATM and suggestions for dinner. He also provided us directions for our departure from Galway, including the sights.
We noticed that the checkout time (noon I believe) and breakfast times (8 to 10) were by far the most generous in all the B&Bs we stayed. We did not need the extra time, but it was obvious that Frank and Joan were sensitive to the needs of their customers.
We mistakenly forgot to turn in our key when we checked out and called Frank the next day and was going to mail it to him and he said not to worry about it and to enjoy our vacation. Very nice family.

  • Liked — Location; hospitality of owners
  • Disliked — Room was small, but adaquate.

We have just returned from a weekend away in Galway and 2 nights in Petra House. I booked most of my accommodation based on TA's reviews and was well worth it in this case. The b&b is on college road which is 5 min walk into the city. Room was lovely, very comfortable bed. Frank was as most reviews have already said, absolutely wonderful. It was like staying with family. He couldnt have been nicer and we enjoyed everything he advised us to do. Breakfasts were amazing too. We had a great weekend and I will not only go back but will recomend it to others as well!

After experiencing a series of very satisfying B&B's along the West Coast of Ireland, we stumbled across the Petra House. If I could give the Petra House six stars out of five, it wouldn't be enough! In a country known for it's hospitality, the Petra House raises the bar to another, possibly unattainable, level. The owners are wonderful, the breakfast was ideal and the rooms were much better than other B&B's that we experienced in Ireland. It is located on a fairly busy street in a major college town, so expect to hear a boisterous group of lads on their way to or from the pubs, but only occasionally (and it's nowhere near the noise level closer to the city center).

If Frank and Joan had asked me to pay what I felt the stay was worth, we'd be a very poor family indeed. We will make arrangements to stay there every time we return to Galway, even if it means calling ahead months in advance. And I'll insist that all of my friends and family do the same.

  • Liked — The hospitality.
  • Disliked — As in ALL OF IRELAND, everything is smaller than in the states

It is the luck of the Irish for sure (I'm American with Irish ancestry) that brought my wife and I to Petra House. We were thrilled with the location and were impressed by the exterior. We arrived in Galway around 3:30 p.m. and we were greeted at Petra House by our charming host Frank. The interior of the home is elegant yet comfortable. We settled in and Frank gladly told us where to go for shopping, food and a good pub. Our room was comfortable and spacious with nice bath. The breakfast was the best we had in Ireland with a good selection. Joan handles the cooking and the behind the scenes work. Frank was our server and is very pleasant and genuinely interested in us. He made the stay pleasant. I highly suggest staying at Petra House. You can't beat the location and oh, what a charmer.

My husband and I stayed at Petra House on a recommendation. Both Frank and Joan are very helpful and wonderful hosts. The house is one of the most beautiful we stayed at. So many details that feel luxurious. The room was very comfortable with ensuite bath. All was very clean. Parking was available in the property. The breakfasts were delicious with great choices; they had the most wonderful fruit salads. We very much enjoyed staying there and would definitely recommend it without reservation.
