We booked an excellent rate on Hotels.com for a double room for two nights. We had a superb stay especially given the poor weather outside this hotel made our stay in Galway memorable. The hotel is very nicely furnished and provides all the amenities one expects from a top level hotel (turn down service, newspapers etc). Our room was very nice. Breakfast was a pleasure. One of the best aspects of this hotel are the friendly helpful staff. From the well dressed bar men to the house keepers.

It is well located in the centre of Galway - driving instruction from the website directed us to the hotel parking service that is provided at no extra cost.

Highly recommend and would stay again in a heartbeat.

The main floor of the hotel is nice, but the rooms are old and in need of renovation. We were not at all impressed. The blow dryer was attached to the wall and looked like the end of a vaccum hose. Needless to say, it did not really work as a blow dryer - pony tail day after a shower here. The bed was also not very comfortable. Luckily we only stayed here one night.

The Park House location is great, but if you stay at the Dromoland Castle the night before, you may want to skip this hotel.

Park House Hotel is nearly as central as you can get in Galway, a stone's throw from Eyre Square (the main square and transport hub) and then a short stroll to the main shops, eateries, pubs and local entertainment venues on Quay and Cross Streets. It's a warm, friendly and welcoming place. However, try not to make the mistake we did! We arrived by car into Galway at 5pm on a Friday night, and it sure has a traffic problem. The Hotel is on an inner one way system, and it was a very stop-start journey over the last few kilometres. There is a small (and very full on Fridays) car park round the back, but we were told to use the section of street opposite the hotel, designated a loading area, while we speedily checked in. Worked fine. As the car park was full, we were sent to the multi storey next door- in fact they offered valet parking but given the short distance, that wasn't worth it. The hotel paid the parking fee.

Our double room was in fact a triple, so it was a touch on the cramped side, but perfectly adequate as Galway is not a town to stay long in your room! The bathroom was very nice indeed. The double bed was a little on the hard side. Complimentary newspapers on arrival and in the morning. There is an excellent restaurant and a comfortable bar which also does food, but of course the array of nearby options is probably more attractive for local atmosphere.

Breakfast was "full Irish" and the waiting staff were almost fighting each other to serve us when we turned up. Very hot, very freshly cooked it was too.

We heartily recommend this hotel, especially if you want to walk to and from the pubs to sample the craic, or, maybe less traditionally, do some shopping!

  • Liked — Location, warm atmosphere and welcoming staff
  • Disliked — A little bit of a "rabbit warren" to find room first time!

Hotel easy to find with directions from the airport, parking OK, valet park if required.

Staff very friendly without being overbearing, just the right balance.

Rooms big by UK standards, OK by US standards.
Clean & well presented.

The food was excellent, and plenty of it, ate in the hotel both nights as I'm not sure you'd find better in Galway (or a lot of other places!). Can recommend the chowder, rack of lamb & the monkfish - tip share veggies between 2 unless you're hungry.

All in all an enjoyable stay and looking forward to a return visit.

I've been told that this is one of the best hotels in Galway, which I can't dispute, not having seen any of the others, but I must question the caliber of the competition, to put the Park House at the top.

We stayed here for 2 nights of our honeymoon and were not impressed. The person who checked us in barely spoke english and had none of the irish charm we'd experienced elsewhere, the parking lot was overcrowed and impossible to navigate, we had to call room service 3 times to get a bucket of ice, housekeeping barged into our room without knocking while we slept, breakfast was close to inedible. The decor ran to polished brass railings, cheap looking chandeliers, made in china "persian" carpets, etched glass and "art" photos of france (?) that look like they were purchased in a mall.

Galway is very noisy and Eyre Square (right next to the hotel) is filled with trash and unclean loiterers.

  • Liked — it was very safe
  • Disliked — pretty much everything else
  • Tips/Secrets: — staying outside og galway city is more charming
