We spent a week there in July 2006 and even though Galway was crammed with people, the hotel was always a calm and cosy oasis - and we hardly had one of the more expensive rooms. Desk staff is relentlessly friendly and helpful. Room had a nice reading area with a small sofa, a chair, and good enough reading lights. Newspapers appeared at our door twice a day, and there was turndown service nightly complete with chocolates on the pillow. We did hear one family requesting a room change because their room (on the street side) was noisy but I would guess this would be true in any downtown-Eyre Square hotel. (Our room on the courtyard side was blissfully quiet). Had one dinner in the hotel restaurant which was surprisingly excellent (lamb). Food in the bar is, well, bar food. The location truly can't be beat: half a block from the train and bus stations, next door to the Galway tourist office (for booking tours) and getting on tour buses, right off Eyre Square for shopping and restaurants. Nice to have breakfast on white tableclothed tables - very elegant. Would definitely stay there again.
