We spent a week there in July 2006 and even though Galway was crammed with people, the hotel was always a calm and cosy oasis - and we hardly had one of the more expensive rooms. Desk staff is relentlessly friendly and helpful. Room had a nice reading area with a small sofa, a chair, and good enough reading lights. Newspapers appeared at our door twice a day, and there was turndown service nightly complete with chocolates on the pillow. We did hear one family requesting a room change because their room (on the street side) was noisy but I would guess this would be true in any downtown-Eyre Square hotel. (Our room on the courtyard side was blissfully quiet). Had one dinner in the hotel restaurant which was surprisingly excellent (lamb). Food in the bar is, well, bar food. The location truly can't be beat: half a block from the train and bus stations, next door to the Galway tourist office (for booking tours) and getting on tour buses, right off Eyre Square for shopping and restaurants. Nice to have breakfast on white tableclothed tables - very elegant. Would definitely stay there again.

I, my wife and our 15 year old son spent two nights at the Park House Hotel in July 2006. The Park House is a very stylish hotel centrally located in Galway. It's about a ten minute walk to anywhere worth going in the town proper. We booked a Junior Suite and it was an eyepopper. Huge bedroom area and a very large, well equipped bath with a separate tub and shower. Spotlessly clean. Beautiful artwork on the walls of the living area and bedroom. Irish breakfasts in the morning were equally impressive--anything you'd want, they had. We also had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent.Staff was polite, professional and very helpful. The hotel did have two downsides. The first was parking. They have a very small car park for the size of the hotel. Most of the cars are parked double and triple, so you have to leave your keys with a bellman. Also, we went to Salthill one night to see a show, and when we returned (a little past 11PM) there was a locked gate across the parking area entrance. I guess they saw us on closed circuit TV since someone did come out and open the gate. The other negative was the water. The water coming out of the taps in the bath was an odd yellow color with a funny smell. I was afraid to brush my teeth with it.

Stayed here for one night in June as part of a tour around the west of Ireland.

Location - excellent, in city centre close to lots of bars/restaurants and shops.

Parking - excellent free parking. Hotel staff on hand to direct you to a parking place within the hotels car park.

Staff/Reception - impressive reception with very helpful and friendly staff

Room - the room we had was a little on the small size but was very clean and very well decorated. The bathroom was very nice and had nice shampoos/soap etc.

Restaurant - only had breakfast but this was very good.

Bar - The bar was nice although we were accosted by a drunk who wanted a deep and meaningful discussion on the meaning of life. Thankfully, the bar staff spotted him quite quickly and got rid of him.

The Park House Hotel is just as all the reviews say - good quality for the money. Having said that, we booked a triple room which was the same price per person as a double room so we expected a bigger room. What we got was a double room with another single bed squeezed in, so it was not comfortable. There was just a tiny window with no view and the room was very stuffy at night.
All the staff are wonderfully warm and friendly. One dinner was included in our package and it was huge but not amazing. The restaurant looks out onto a car park.
Galway was overrun by stag and hen parties and is much too small a place to support them. It is probably fine during the week. We did find pubs with traditional irish music being played and that was the best thing.
