It's interesting the mixed reviews from travelers who stay at the same hotel -- but we couldn't have enjoyed the Park House more. After a long, long day driving from Belfast through the midlands, we arrived at the Park House at about 6pm and were thrilled. Very kind and helpful front desk staff and our porter took care of our bags and parked our car for us (this was a huge benefit) then spent 10 minutes with us talking about restaurants and local sites.

Our room was huge with a great bed and a separate entry way with a place for our bags, coats, fafe, etc...and this wasn't even a suite! The bathroom was huge and we loved the heated towel rack!

As for location, it is right near everything -- the main shopping and dining area, Eyre Square, and a one minute walk to the hotel where we met our bus to Rossaveal docks for our Aran Islands trip. Galway is young, fun, attractive...great food, great pubs, and somewhere we will definately return. The Aran Islands (Inismore) is an adventure that you cannot skip -- what a day!

The Park House had a great dinner menu although we preferred to eat out in town. However, the bar was nice for a late night drink and their breakfast (included) was very nice with a great selection -- what a treat before a long day out exploring.

We very much enjoyed the Park House...clean, friendly, great rooms, excellent location -- not an inexpensive hotel but for what we received, how we were treated, and the location -- we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

After reading some of the reviews for this hotel I feel as though there must be two different sections of the hotel. Perhaps some rooms or floors have been updated and others have not. Our large suite on the fourth floor was very nice, spacious, clean and offered us all of the comforts we were looking for after a few days of travel. The bathroom was large and was all marble and granite with bright lights and lovely towels. We had a sitting area, a dinning room table, and two very large closets. The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was tasty with plenty to choose from. It was in a good location in town & offered free parking. We would certainly go back.

I stayed at the Park House Hotel in Galway for a long weekend with my partner, splitting up a holiday/business trip to Dublin.

We flew from Dublin with Air Arran, which was fine although we subsequently found out it would have been much cheaper to get a coach (maybe less stressful than the airport atmosphere too). Taxi from the shed-sized airport took about 20min and was reasonable.

Receptionist at check in was cheery, and the hotel had a family run atmosphere. The overall decor was a little old fashioned for our tastes but might be to other's liking, and of course is not a major factor in your stay. The room was a reasonable size, with a small double bed and an additional single. There was also a desk, sofa and table and chair. The bathroom was a bit tatty but was clean and functional.

Breakfast is included in the cost, with a selection of pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurts, etc. You could also order full Irish, pancakes, individual hot items such as bacon, eggs, and have refill tea/coffee as well as juices. Service was efficient and friendly. The only downside were the tables being close too together, and when it was busy in there, you felt like you were part of each other's conversations.

It's located on a fairly busy one way street, and a couple of mins walk to the main high street. There is a tourist info on the right hand corner of the street, with a mini market opposite and a couple of pubs.

We hired a car, which is not worth the money with the large amount of guided tours and trips available at a reasonable cost. We travelled to the north in our car, and did a trip to the Cliffs of Moher, where we were fortunate to have a sunny clear day.

There are quite a large choice of low key restaurant and pubs in the main and only main street. Also a great fish n chip shop that was packed but worth the wait!

Overall we had a pleasant stay but after booking the hotel on the basis of being the top rated Trip Advisor hotel in Galway I think we were perhaps mistakenly expecting a bit more.

We spent 1 Friday night in Mrach in the Park House.
This really is a nice old-fashioned hotel. Rooms were really really luxurious with plenty of room and a nice marble bathroom with Molton Brown toiletries which is a nice touch.
We also received an evening and morning paper which makes this hotel really worthy of its 4 star rating.
Location is excellent...right off Eyre Square.
Reception staff very pleasant & helpful
Cold buffet not good at all but hot break-fast made up for it.
When staying in Galway again we will definetely return to the Park House.

  • Liked — the old world feeling
  • Disliked — cold buffet very poor

My husband stayed at the Park House Hotel in February, 2008. Staff was kind and helpful and location was perfect for seeing the sights in Galway. We arrived on a Saturday and were paying top dollar for the room. I had selected Park House due to pictures and favorable reviews in Tripadvisor. My actual room was tiny, dark and the bed clothes and carpet all needed to be pitched. Seeing stains on the blanket after pulling back the old bedspread made me feel queasy. The Park House hasn't gotten the memo about supplying their guests with down comforters that can be placed inside pristine, white, changeable duvet covers.

The bathroom was fine, adequate. I appreciated the Moulton Brown shower products and loved the heated towel racks.

The breakfast was good and the staff very attentive. The lobby furniture also needs update, as it looks tired. That's understandable as the lobby was constantly busy. Major groups were visiting on the sofas all week-end. The hotel is certainly a mecca for socializing. Whole families spent the entire Sunday afternoon, holding court in the lobby. The atmosphere was very lively.
