I stayed at the Park House Hotel in Galway for a long weekend with my partner, splitting up a holiday/business trip to Dublin.
We flew from Dublin with Air Arran, which was fine although we subsequently found out it would have been much cheaper to get a coach (maybe less stressful than the airport atmosphere too). Taxi from the shed-sized airport took about 20min and was reasonable.
Receptionist at check in was cheery, and the hotel had a family run atmosphere. The overall decor was a little old fashioned for our tastes but might be to other's liking, and of course is not a major factor in your stay. The room was a reasonable size, with a small double bed and an additional single. There was also a desk, sofa and table and chair. The bathroom was a bit tatty but was clean and functional.
Breakfast is included in the cost, with a selection of pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurts, etc. You could also order full Irish, pancakes, individual hot items such as bacon, eggs, and have refill tea/coffee as well as juices. Service was efficient and friendly. The only downside were the tables being close too together, and when it was busy in there, you felt like you were part of each other's conversations.
It's located on a fairly busy one way street, and a couple of mins walk to the main high street. There is a tourist info on the right hand corner of the street, with a mini market opposite and a couple of pubs.
We hired a car, which is not worth the money with the large amount of guided tours and trips available at a reasonable cost. We travelled to the north in our car, and did a trip to the Cliffs of Moher, where we were fortunate to have a sunny clear day.
There are quite a large choice of low key restaurant and pubs in the main and only main street. Also a great fish n chip shop that was packed but worth the wait!
Overall we had a pleasant stay but after booking the hotel on the basis of being the top rated Trip Advisor hotel in Galway I think we were perhaps mistakenly expecting a bit more.
