I'd just like to say that The Skeffington Arms Hotel is one of the better hotels I've stayed in!
Myself and my partner stayed there for a week in June, and I must say that Ive never been more warmly welcomed by ANY hotel. The reception was friendly, helpful and competent. The rooms were spotless, comfortable and had everything you needed for your stay.
The restaurant and bar both had a brilliant atmosphere and great food. And again the staff were so friendly and polite, they all really made our stay there most enjoyable!
I would definately recommend The Skeffington Arms to anyone who wants to stay in Galway city centre, and will most certainly be staying there again!

Lots of old world charm! Beautifully decorated rooms. Very clean and comfortable. Great staff.Super convenient to train/bus/restaurants/bars/shopping. Make sure to have a night cap in their charming bar.

Their email address on their site was outdated when I originally tried to book the room in September 2005. I'm sure they have updated the address, but incase you don't hear back from them you might still have the old address. We ended up booking the room in person, and lucked out, the room was half the price as the advertised rates on their site. Even at full price, the Skeffington Arms is the best option in Galway.

We stayed here for two nights as my wife was doing some work in Galway. It's a pretty solid old-style Irish hotel - basic comfortable rooms, narrow corridors, a massively filling Irish breakfast, relaxed helpful staff.
On the first night though, we had a room near the nightclub downstairs, and it kept us up with relentless bass beats et al til four in the morning, which was a real pain as my wife had to do an important work project the next day. We got moved to a room on the other side of the hotel for the second night, and it was certainly better. The front of house staff didn't seem that surprised we wanted to move so I guess it happens often enough. Also our TV remote didn't work in our first room but that wasn't a big deal.
If you are planning to be out on the town each night on your trip, (which is pretty doable in Galway) you'll be fine, but if you want to get a decent night's sleep for work or touring, ask for a room on the opposite side to the nightclub.
On the good side, it does have a great central location and you can park your car at a local multi-storey for half price 24 hour stints.
Food-wise, there is a fabulous noodle house called Da Tang nearby, while for a cheap lovely bite, pop into Homeplate Organics.
And do bring an umbrella.

just back from from a short break staying in this hotel. the bedroom was a good a size and very clean. we ate in the hotel restaurant one of the nights and the food was enjoyable and the breakfast was something to look forward to each morning. staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was any problem. the hotel is situated in the eyre square - the main square - it doesn't have car parking but they have a special rate of 8 euros per day with the bearby public car park. the hotel has entertainment in the bar area again it was enjoyable. one of the nights we ate at highly recommended restaurant called Nimmos near the spanish arch - very disappointing - especailly the menu and it was not cheap. if you like good coffee with lovey baked cakes etc go to Goyas at kirwins lane.
