I was trying to decide between a few B&B's for our 4 night stay in Galway. The reason I chose the Ardawn House was because I called and Mike was so friendly and helpful on the phone. We flew into Dublin and took the CityLink bus to Galway as Mike suggested (about a 4 hour ride). When CityLink dropped us off, we walked 1/4 block (downhill) to the stop light (where the tourism office is), turned right and walked (1/2 of the walk was a slight uphill, but nothing to worry about) on College Rd. for about 5 minutes. The city center is just past the tourism office (if you turn left instead of right), so very close to the B&B.
Our room was very comfortable and clean. It was a great place to rest each night and watch a little Irish tv. At night I went downstairs to gather some hot chocolate, tea, and cookies that are always left out for the guests, so we could have a midnight snack! For breakfast we had a choice of about 7 different dishes, as well as being able to help ourselves to a buffet of cereals and juices. Each morning we were there, a different person served us...Mike, Breda, their daughter and the daughter's friend. Each of them were so pleasant to talk to and were interested in our questions and plans for the day. Breakfast was a great time to meet the other people staying there and hear about where they had been, politics, driving on the left side of the road, etc.
The greyhound track is right behind the B&B, which seems like it would be noisey, but it wasn't. Maybe because it was cold and the spectators are inside watching on tv's. We went one night to the races and all the noise is contained inside. The dogs race on a track outside, but they are quiet. Maybe in the summer, when the weather is warmer, there is more activity outside, but I can't imagine it's a bother.
The Ardawn house is charming and a wonderful place to stay. If we return, this will be the place we will stay!
