Have just returned from a 3 night weekend break at The Days Hotel in Galway. We have two children, both under 3. We could not say enough about the staff. They were extremely friendly in every area of the hotel. We used the childrens entertainment facility a lot. Our children were under 3 so we were supervising them in the childrens club but if your children are over three there is a drop in service. The childrens club is well staffed and there is a full itenerary of activities every day for different age groups. Our children loved it. There was also the leisure centre with kiddies pool. Changing rooms were very clean and general pool area was very clean. We took a suite which had a seperate kitchenette equipped with sink, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, delf and cutlery which was very handy to have with two small children. Seperate bedroom, seperate bathroom off hall area and seperate living area. Accommodation was more than comfortable and very spacious. Breakfast was included in our deal and was very tasty and plentyfull. The kids club did a special sitting in the dining room at 5pm every day for the childrens meals (all included in the price!) and there was a range of the usual chips, nuggets, sausages, burgers etc but also an health option of potatoes, veg, meat which I was very happy with. There were complimentry papers at reception every morning. The bar food menu was good and the restaurant menu at night was also good. We will definately go again. In my opinion it is very hard to find a hotel that is so geared towards the family as this hotel certainly is. It is a three star with a difference. The value for money is second to none and if you are travelling with small children or just want a bit more space I would definately recommend the suites as it does not cost that much extra to upgrade. We found the overall value for money excellent, the service excellent and the food good.

  • Liked — The organised activities for children
  • Disliked — No real negative comments to make but the hotel was huge so you did end up walking a little to get to various places in the hotel...!

A large hotel outside of the city itself. Large comfortable rooms. Average but acceptable food. Relatively quiet. Transport required to get into the city. Sound enough but not particularly memorable.

  • Liked — Large, well appointed room with comfortable beds
  • Disliked — My non-smoking room had a lingering smell of smoke

Book the Days hotel Galway through www.1800hotels.ie for a three night break, Got a great deal €80pp for the 3 nights B&B For a double room! Thought thta was a great deal.
The rooms was sparious, TV, En suite and all the usuals. It was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly but we mostly ate in the hotel bar in the evenings, staff were always very busy and sometimes a little flustered.
The bar food menu was nice enough but limited.
The breackfast though was fantastic! 10 out of 10. It was self service and was very straight forward. Food was good and tasty with loads of it. Great selection.

Would stay here again. Its a little outside the city but would be in walking distance took us about 10 minutes to drive in.

Sep 30, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

A day trip to Galway became an unplanned overnight stay. Since a really bad experience some time ago I have always avoided Days Hotels like the plague and would not have stayed here by choice.

As we were at the hotel when the decision was made to stay over I approached the desk to enquire abour rates, vacancies, etc. My enquiry was handled immediately in an extremely friendly and efficient manner. The price was reasonable €99 per night (1 person) including breakfast, (€120 for 2 persons including breakfast). My request for a smoking room was taken care of and in next to no time I was checked in.

The hotel was very well staffed, when the bar became busy extra staff were drafted in from elsewhere, I always regard this as a very good sign. The majority of staff appeared to be Irish which is very unusual these days and made a welcome change.

The breakfast the next day was a well stocked buffet.

I would certainly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Days Hotel, Galway from Sept 20-26 and had a wonderful time. The hotel is about two miles outside the city centre (seven Euros for taxi ride into city) but is very good. This would be a four star hotel in the UK. Our room had a large double and large single bed, very nicely furnished with tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer and a bathroom with a bath. There is free wi-fi for laptops in the lobby which worked well and you could also get it free in the room (10 Euro deposit for cable) although the cable didn't fit my mini computer. Internet was also available through the bedroom TV although you had to pay for that. Breakfast was not particularly good, food had been left standing for too long, but I asked for scrambled eggs and the staff willingly cooked me some. We ate in the bar two evenings and the helpings were huge and freshly cooked. Around 13 Euros per bar meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel seems to be well used for corporate meetings. The hotel is well placed for the fabulous Connemara countryside and we spent a lot of time along the coast road to Clifden and also visiting places like Westport and the Burren. We found it easier to take a taxi into Galway in the evening as it is quite congested however there are lots of car parks. The only down side was that we were woken up three times one night by drunken guests shrieking and running down the corridor. When we complained on checking out there was an apology but the way the staff looked at each other made me think this was not an isolated problem. However, it didn't spoil our trip and we will definitely be using this hotel again.

  • Liked — smart room and free wi-fi
  • Disliked — some guests were inconsiderate returning to rooms after night out
