We stayed at the Days Hotel, Galway from Sept 20-26 and had a wonderful time. The hotel is about two miles outside the city centre (seven Euros for taxi ride into city) but is very good. This would be a four star hotel in the UK. Our room had a large double and large single bed, very nicely furnished with tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer and a bathroom with a bath. There is free wi-fi for laptops in the lobby which worked well and you could also get it free in the room (10 Euro deposit for cable) although the cable didn't fit my mini computer. Internet was also available through the bedroom TV although you had to pay for that. Breakfast was not particularly good, food had been left standing for too long, but I asked for scrambled eggs and the staff willingly cooked me some. We ate in the bar two evenings and the helpings were huge and freshly cooked. Around 13 Euros per bar meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel seems to be well used for corporate meetings. The hotel is well placed for the fabulous Connemara countryside and we spent a lot of time along the coast road to Clifden and also visiting places like Westport and the Burren. We found it easier to take a taxi into Galway in the evening as it is quite congested however there are lots of car parks. The only down side was that we were woken up three times one night by drunken guests shrieking and running down the corridor. When we complained on checking out there was an apology but the way the staff looked at each other made me think this was not an isolated problem. However, it didn't spoil our trip and we will definitely be using this hotel again.

  • Liked — smart room and free wi-fi

We spent a wonderful week at Days Hotel Galway in August. The hotel is definitely a perfect place to bring children. Our children particularly loved the swimming pool, which had a lifeguard on duty during its opening hours. The staff could not be more helpful or friendly. The rooms were spacious. We would most certainly love to return to Days in Galway.

We had to go to Galway for an urgent appointment at last minute. Ended up getting to Galway at 8.30pm with no accommodation booked. We don't know Galway and came accross this very busy hotel. There was tonnes of buses outside. We chanced it to see if they had a room and luck was on our side. Our room was lovely. We had 2 double beds in our room - it was lovely. The bathroom was a little of a let down but not drastic. The breakfast was lovely. The staff in the breakfast room were efficient with the manager on his toes there really looking after everyone. I will definitely go back and make use of the pool facilities the next time. It looked great.

  • Liked — Nice bedrooms
  • Disliked — not getting to use pool as hadn't the time!!

When we arrived in after a lot of travel. the first thing I was told was that there were two rooms booked under my name. Now ok that happens but they were actually expecting two rooms to be paid for. It was a problem with the website I had booked through though so there was nothing that could be done about that and I wasn’t charged.

After the problems in checking in we went to the room to get some rest. The room we got had a 2 meter wet patch on the carpet. It was so wet that water was coming away with my fingertips. We changed rooms very quickly because the last thing that we needed was wet carpeting.

In the second room after attempting to get some rest and relax a little we heard a noise like an extraction fan. After looking we couldn’t find the source of the noise and it kept us awake until the early hours in the morning. Also the noise from outside was quite loud and not condusive to a relaxing atmosphere.

The breakfast, which I had been told was a congenital, was really a fry and generally inedible. There was dinner included in the room price as well but both myself and my travelling companion ended up feeling ill after it.

The only thing that seemed to work in the whole hotel was the taxi service which you had to take because the hotel is not a 20 min walk from Eyre Square as billed. It’s more like 45 min and unless you know Galway you can get lost.

We did complain about the problems we had and received €50 off the price of our room however I honestly think that I will avoid the entire chain in future. It was possibly the worst weekend break I have ever taken. I was also very unsatisfied with all the aspects of the hotel in particular for what we had to pay in the first place.
I would say avoid it unless it’s a last resort.

As the title says, Days Galway met all expectations. We had a suite which was well equipped and spotlessly clean. One gripe was that the mattresses were very soft and the one on the single bed fell to one side.

The pool area and leisure centre was very good. It was nice to be provided with complimentary towels.

What the Hoteldidn't have was much character. It was rather corporate and soulless and the bar was empty at 12.20am.

I would stay here again with the family but for a weekend away with the missus I think I'd look for something a lttle more special.
