The location of the Imperial cannot be faulted - it is right in the city centre, facing Eyre Square, and it is just a couple blocks away from the meeting point for the Galway Tour Company (which is highly recommended!) Our room was spacious and reasonably clean, and the continental breakfast quite good - meats and cheeses, breads, fruit and cereal. Our room faced Eyre Square and on Friday night especially there was a lot of noise from revelers on the street, mostly consisting of students - at one point, around 1 am, a large group below our window starting singing (using the term loosely) Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis. My friend and I looked down at them and considered pelting them with water balloons. Alas, we had none.

  • Liked — Nice room, decent breakfast, great location
  • Disliked — noisy, if you're facing the street

We had a really good experience staying 2 nights in Galway at this hotel. I understand that we were probably also very lucky to get a very nice room, right at the front of the hotel with a view over Eyre Square. This presented a few problems at night and in the early morning, as one can hear the noise from the street as well as street cleaning machines, but this is only a small drawback, it really wasn't that noisy when we were there, and we stayed over a weekend.

We booked a double room but we got a double+single room which was very large, like a studio apartment. Everything was clean, facilities were good (although the strange thing was that they had tethered the kettle to the wall and so you couldn't actually take it to the bathroom to fill it!). There was also a larger-than-average TV on the wall, and a sizeable safe in the room. Our window in the bathroom was also stuck open, which made it a little cold, but the bathroom was spotlessly clean.

Location-wise, this hotel is very good, right in the middle of Galway, a stone's throw from Eyre Sq and the tourist info booth, and barely 5 mins from the main pedestrianised shopping areas.

We also liked the breakfast spread, which was a mix of cold meats and cheeses as well as pastry, and bread, along with the usual tea/coffee and juices. All in all, a very decent hotel which I'll not hesitate to use again the next time we visit Galway.

  • Liked — Large room, reliable internet access, good facilities, central location
  • Disliked — Bathroom window stuck open

A bit difficult to get to being in the middle of the city, but the location is fantastic. Situated right off of Eyre Square and great shops and pubs. The room was comfortable yet plain. I could hear the guest in the next room snoring and every word the cleaning ladies said each morning. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I flew into Galway on Tuesday. Got my taxi straight to the Imperial hotel which is a the top of eyre square where i recievded a extemly friendly welcome from. All th e staff were extemly nice and the newly remodernised rooms were very nice. All the food i ate there was to die for. So over it was a lovely hotel and as the irish say "it was great crac" can't wait to go back.

The imperial hotel is situated right in the centre of Galway City, only a moment walk from the train station. The location of this place is perfect for a traveller wishing to explore Galway City and surrounds.

BUT WE WERE NOT HAPPY ...

Quite simply we found this place bad value for money.
Although the rooms were quite spacious and nicely decorated, the window views are poor to limited.
The common theme is a meandering maze of halls, corridors and poor sign-posting.

Breakfast consisted of a VERY simple continental breakfast.
A poor variety of foods available for the ammount tenderd for the room.

Room cleaning appears to start from early in the morning. Twice we were visited at 10am by cleaning staff who entered our room without knocking, even though we were still in bed!

On our second evening we noticed that there was no hot water in our bathroom but did not think too much of it at the time as we were going out to explore the city.
The following morning again there was no hot water available to us.
At this stage we decided to check out of the hotel,we did not create a fuss thinking this was an energy saving procedure by the hotel.
On departure we pointed this out to the manager in the reception area,he disappeared to arrive back minutes later to tell us there was piping hot water in our taps and also tell us that there were no complaints from the residents in the rooms next door.
Apart from the fact that the room next door was vacant,we felt we were made out to be liars by the management of this establishment.

On the plus side the bar/food and reception staff were found to be very plesant an efficient in ther duties.

Overall we had a bad experience in this hotel and would not consider it again in the future.
