The imperial hotel is situated right in the centre of Galway City, only a moment walk from the train station. The location of this place is perfect for a traveller wishing to explore Galway City and surrounds.

BUT WE WERE NOT HAPPY ...

Quite simply we found this place bad value for money.
Although the rooms were quite spacious and nicely decorated, the window views are poor to limited.
The common theme is a meandering maze of halls, corridors and poor sign-posting.

Breakfast consisted of a VERY simple continental breakfast.
A poor variety of foods available for the ammount tenderd for the room.

Room cleaning appears to start from early in the morning. Twice we were visited at 10am by cleaning staff who entered our room without knocking, even though we were still in bed!

On our second evening we noticed that there was no hot water in our bathroom but did not think too much of it at the time as we were going out to explore the city.
The following morning again there was no hot water available to us.
At this stage we decided to check out of the hotel,we did not create a fuss thinking this was an energy saving procedure by the hotel.
On departure we pointed this out to the manager in the reception area,he disappeared to arrive back minutes later to tell us there was piping hot water in our taps and also tell us that there were no complaints from the residents in the rooms next door.
Apart from the fact that the room next door was vacant,we felt we were made out to be liars by the management of this establishment.

On the plus side the bar/food and reception staff were found to be very plesant an efficient in ther duties.

Overall we had a bad experience in this hotel and would not consider it again in the future.

We stayed in this hotel before the refurb and it was fine, but now it is excellent I have to say. Modern contemporary look our room was a good size with a king bed, air con, flat scree TV. Bedroom and bathroom were fresh looking and very clean.

Breakfst was a buffet, very good selection and moved to the first floor. The food in the Bar was excellent we ate one night and went out for the second, to many nice restaurants in Galway to miss the opportunity of going to Quay street!

I can understand why people complain about noise from outside but that is what you get in a city like Galway its the capital of the west Dublin, London even Paris is the same. In saying that we did not hear anything at all and had a great sleep.

All in all I would have to say stay at the Imperial hotel and make your own mind up for me it is one of the best in Galway city
I know we will definitively stay there again.

Have been visiting Galway for many years and stayed in the old Imperial. I have to say the refurb is the bees knees and have lifted the hotel into the 21st century while keeping the friendliness of staff along with that famous late bar :-)).

Will definitely be back again soon for more of the craic!

I would have to rubbish the bad reviews, this hotel is great! We had firstly booked into the Eyre Square Hotel but when we went to confirm the booking we found that they had no record of us at all which was ridiculous. When we rang the Imperial and told them our story they offered us a very reasonable rate.
The rooms were gorgeous and all the staff were very friendly, especially the nightporter and bar staff. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone.

City centre hotel in Galway. Entrance is adjacent to a grubby bar which is part of the hotel. Tortuous route through endless corridors to the room. Furnishings and decor very tired. One small window to rear overlooking roof ventilation units etc with associated noise. No air con so had to leave window open. No room safe in room so no security, could have left items in the main safe in reception though, but not very convenient.
No internet access except in bar/lounge area.
Not for me again!
