I spent two nights in this B&b, last August, with my husband and a couple of friends. on my opinion, this property is one of the best Irish b&b: large and elegant rooms, with parquet-flooring, antique furnitures, refined interior decorations. The bathroom was extremely clean, the staff was kind and friendly, the breakfast was large (both continental and Irish breakfast were available) and served in a elegant hall. The B&b is situated in a very confortable position, few minutes walking from the town centre.
The atmosphere at St.Jude's is relaxing and charming and you feel as you are in a XIX century elegant hotel, while you are staying in a modern b&b!

  • Liked — Charming atmosphere, room cleanliness, location near the town centre
  • Disliked — Rooms only at the first floor without lift

It is rather strange that this B&B got such good reviews so far.
Let me say that we will definately search for other B&Bs in Galway next time. Not that we suffered there, not at all, but it was really not worth the money, and simply has too much problems for us.
Here it is:

Pro:
#######
1. Clean enough.
2. Big room with radiators that keep the room warm.
3. free parking

Cons:
#######
1. I wanted to choose this disadvantage to be the first, because my wife I remember it as the worth. We were staying in a room that had a tap (faucet) in a size of few fingers. maybe it is a problem that exist only in our room, but it was impossible to wash hands without touching the sink. it had no hot/cold water connected into one tap (each tap with either hot/cold water).
It sounds silly, but wait till you try washing your hands or washing some fruits...
2. Very very UNpleasant hosts. I will not elaborate since too many things to say here.
3. Far away from city center. you must have a car to drink some beer at the evening. 5 KM from the nearest Bar.

I must stress again - very rude hosts. very uncomfortable bathroom.
To sum up - think again before loving the place only for its beautiful pictures.

Management response from StJudesowner, owner

We wonder if this guest really stayed at St Judes ! We are located within 2 km of Quay Street and the heart of Galway, an easy 20 minute walk and not the 5km stated. As for pubs within easy reach, if you exit our property and turn left there are 2 excellent pubs within 100 metres and, if you turn right, within 500 metres you are in the village of Salthill where you have a choice of pubs and places to eat including the famous O'Connors bar of Salthill. We are a period house, maintained with fittings and decor to match. We have regular sized basin/sinks in all bathrooms but, of course, do not have 'mixer' style taps since these would be completely out of character with the house. We are amazed at the inaccuracies posted and feel they are a completely unfair reflection of our location and facilities. Tony & Ita Johnstone owners.

My friend and I found St. Judes to be a beautiful, comfortable and friendly place to stay. Upon our arrival Ita showed us to our room and struck up a converstation with us about our travels, what we had seen and what else we were planning on doing. She recommended some pubs and resturants (which we visited and had a grand time!), and even though we were there on a Sunday encouraged us to go out as there's always something going on, and there was! We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast the next day, quite a variety on the menu and had excellent service! It's fairly centrally located, you can walk to downtown if you feel up to it, or there are quite a few pubs around the B&B itself that we chose to visit. Our room was clean and comfortable, and had french doors which led outside. I would most definatly recommend this B&B to anyone!

We are used to staying in B&B's so we know what questions to ask.
Ita was welcoming and showed us to a lovely room.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff person friendly and helpful.
One evening, we stayed "in" for dinner and Sinead cooking a wonderful dinner for us.
We loved this place and would come back anytime.
St Jude's is located on a quiet street but it is a walk to the city center.. We knew this and found the walk to be interesting and invigorating. In case of rain, it would be prudent to have the right clothing and umbrellas.

We stayed two nights in this well appointed Irish house. Everything was comfortable, the breakfasts were good, and the hosts were helpful. They even have a menu to order from. It was more like a small hotel. Galway is an easy walk. Even closer is Salt Hill with its beach, pubs, and restaurants.
