We are used to staying in B&B's so we know what questions to ask.
Ita was welcoming and showed us to a lovely room.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff person friendly and helpful.
One evening, we stayed "in" for dinner and Sinead cooking a wonderful dinner for us.
We loved this place and would come back anytime.
St Jude's is located on a quiet street but it is a walk to the city center.. We knew this and found the walk to be interesting and invigorating. In case of rain, it would be prudent to have the right clothing and umbrellas.

We stayed two nights in this well appointed Irish house. Everything was comfortable, the breakfasts were good, and the hosts were helpful. They even have a menu to order from. It was more like a small hotel. Galway is an easy walk. Even closer is Salt Hill with its beach, pubs, and restaurants.

when we arrived at this b&b, an older woman answered the door. she did not even say hello, she held it open for us to enter and then she walked into another room returning about a minute later to give us the key to the room. she made us all feel extrememely uncomfortable and unwelcome. the room was exceptable, clean without any frills, no coffee/tea or any form of refreshment and the soap was a palmolive pump that was almost empty. at breakfast the next day, there was a young foreign woman who didnt know the answer to any of our questions and when she asked someone else they replied for us to go to the tourist board, we were looking for a laundramat and horseback riding. we were leaving early the next day and asked for an earlier breakfast and they said "no", not even an offer of coffee. the breakfast was supposed to be "gourmet" and it was anything close to that. we were not told we could have juice, cereal, yogurt and all the other buffet items. so in a nutshell, location is good, lodging exceptable and rude, rude rude. it was our biggest disappointment in our 13 night trip to ireland and the uk.

Management response from sodjy, Daughter
(Management representative)
Jul 31, 2008
We were very disappointed to read the review by these guests and feel that it is inaccurate and unfair account of their stay. These guests were welcomed into the house by my mother Ita. They stayed for 2 nights. On the second day they came back from town with bags, and my mother trying to make conversation, asked had they been shopping. They responded curtly, 'no, we've been doing laundry'. They then stated that they were leaving at 6.30 in the morning and does that mean they don't get breakfast. Ita responded that we don't start breakfast until 8:00 a.m. We often leave out a continental breakfast for guests that are leaving early and would have been happy to for these guests, if they had asked, but they didn't , they just walked off. The following morning, Ita arrived down to the hall to start her busy day, and was greeted by a rude note from these guests, who had left without paying, stating there was no-one around. We were in the house all evening the night before, had made any attempt to settle their account. and discuss their dissatisfaction. With regard to the comments about our staff, they are very informed however, they do not know and should not be expected to know every last detail with regard to horseriding times etc. in the vicinity and the most appropriate place to get up to date, accurate information is the local tourist office, which the guests were directed to. With regard to our breakfast, we provide a buffet of cereals, freshly prepared fruits, juices, homemade breads and cakes, as well as an extensive hot menu, which is in our opinion, and in the opinion of the majority of our guests, who return again and again superior to many higher priced hotels and other similar b&b's. We are a family run bed and breakfast, not a hotel. We work 7 days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m, trying to make our guests stay as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately, a very small handful of guests are just never satisfied.

We had a wonderful two night stay at St. Judes B&B. The location was an easy 10 minute walk to the center of Galway and was literally a 3 minute bus ride. The B&B was very clean and neat. Our room overlooked the garden, which was very peaceful. It was also very nice to have different choices for breakfast; we had the poached eggs and potato bread one morning and French toast the next. Our hosts were friendly, polite and very helpful with directions.

I would without a doubt stay here again and would recommend this B&B to a friend.

This was our favorite B and B on our recent trip to Ireland. The house is beautiful and Ita and Sinead are gracious, hospitable and gentle hostesses. We felt welcomed into their home. Our bed was comfortable. The breakfast was extraordinary and in a very pleasant and well-appointed setting. The home is very close to the Salthill area and an easy bus ride to downtown Galway with the bus stop directly outside the B and B. We were sorry we had only one night at St. Jude's and would stay here again without hesitation.
