“Top place to stay in Galway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Stayed here for one night in October. Checked mid afternoon and shared a large clean dorm room with 10 or 12 beds. The room had an en suite bathroom as well as another separate toilet and separate shower. Free Wi-Fi and light breakfast included. The girl at reception gave me a free 15 minute use of the computer when I checked in (same as at their Dublin hostel). If I'm visiting Galway again I would definitely stay here.

I really enjoyed staying at this hostel. The rooms were little and it felt like I was staying in a house. My room was an 8 person ( 4 bunk) style room with a private bathroom and a window overlooking some pubs and restaurants. There are other gigantic rooms cheaper but there are a lot of people in them. Breakfast is toast, cereal and coffee which was expected. Galway is beautiful and you can take trips to the Cliffs of Mohr and Aran Island from here. The staff will help you with all of that. They were kind and helpful every time I needed them

This was my favorite place that I stayed during my month long backpacking trip around ireland. It became a bit of a home away from home in my 9 day stay. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, the rooms are clean and well cared for, and you can't beat the location. It's right in the middle of the action in galway's city centre. I went on several tours from galway (aran islands, cliffs of moher) and it was easy and a great deal by booking through barnacles. I stayed in the barnacles in dublin and saved some money by booking from one to the other...awesome deal. I will definitely be returning on my next trip!

I have stayed there recently for a weekend. It is extremely well located, really close to everything you may possibly want to see, which includes nightlife, bars and restaurants. The amenities are fair for the price you pay. It is a clean, safe, convenient and comfortable place. Also, the free breakfast is not bad. In general, a little bit noisy due to the proximity with bars and restaurants, but nothing that would bother me. What I like the most about the place was the staff. They are amazingly helpful and friendly and will do anything they can to help you. IMHO, the only drawbacks are: no lockers inside the rooms and water not so hot in the shower.

Depending on what room you are in, you probably won't sleep until midnight at least. The Quays pub is just across the alley and there is another pub next to Barnacles that rocks out for awhile too, my advice is try not to get one of the front rooms (110-114). Our shower had no hot water, which sorta sucked with Galway's weather!

The kitchen is a great place to meet people, and has a wide variety of facilities to get your meals cooked on the cheap. The free breakfast is ok, enough to get you started for the day (toast/cereal/tea/coffee).

Talk to the staff! The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful! They will help you with anything you want to know and can recommend great places for food and a good time.

Room Tip: Anything away from the front of the hostel will be quieter.

This place is right in the busiest part of town for nightlife, bars, restaurants and the like. The place is well priced for the location, and that is why you are staying here: location. Do not expect amenities and do expect to be able to hear what's going on on the streets at 2am! For me, this was great because I was partaking in the nightlife during my entire stay in Galway. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment, not the actual hostel, so it is worth noting that I had excellent privacy. The staff was great too...just a no-frills place for a younger crowd that wants to be right in the mix.
