Recently stayed at Devondell, partially based on reviews on this site. Comments are accurate - Berna was a pleasure to stay with: very helpful, friendly and informative. Plus, the breakfast was fantastic! Perfect way to get the day started.

Read the reviews on this site and booked accordingly. This B&B is off the beaten path, but walking distance to everything. Small rooms, but very clean. Each room has its own bath. Proprietor, Berna, is a very nice older woman. She does live on the first floor and retires on the early side... so if you're not into 'tip-toeing and whispering' after about 9pm, this may not be the place for you. Berna whips up homemade breakfast for you each morning, which is outstanding. You'll have breakfast with other house guests in a small dining room - which can be hit or miss, depending on the guests. ;-) Quiet types, older couples and guests traveling solo are probably best suited for this location.

That's what you'll feel like calling to Berna on arriving at Devondell B&B before long. She runs the cleanest and most cheerful B&B in Galway, maybe all of Ireland. She cooks wonderful gourmet breakfasts and is so sweet and helpful that you will want to adopt her and take her with you. Only 5 or 6 rooms so book with her ASAP. 20 minute walk to downtown Galway, 10 minute walk to Salthill. When we return to Galway, we won't consider staying anywhere else, it's that good.

Well, what can we say?! We absolutely adored our short stay at Devondell and we could not recommend it any more.
We arrived in Galway after a journey across from Dublin - Berna welcomed us with beautiful Irish tea and freshly made raspberry muffins.
The location is rather nice as it is just outside the hustle and bustle of the beautiful city, but just 10-15 mins walk away.
As my girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary, Berna had booked a table at a restarant for us - 'Nimmo's' just through the Spanish Arch in the city. The restaurant was very romantic and perfect for such a celebration.
The city itself was much more lively than I expected, especially for mid-October. The smoking law in Ireland (not allowed indoors in public areas) has created a very Mediterranean feel about the town - all of the pubs and bars now have terraces, which are used to full effect well into the night.
On the Sunday morning, my girlfriend and I got the bus out to Connemara and flew to the beautiful Arran Islands for the day. It was very surreal, but well worth a trip out there. Just do a Google search and there are 6 flights a day - around €45 per person.
The best thing about Devondell was most certainly the breakfast - just exquisite! Especially the porridge with a sprinkling of Irish Mist!
All in all, an unforgettable stay in a gorgeous part of the world and Berna is a hostess like no other
