The best B & B in Ireland, possibly the World

The old adage 'there's no place like home' is challenged by Berna Kelly. Her B & B is superb.
Berna is a very caring hostess of a beautifully appointed small B & B. Guests are welcomed and made to feel at home. The rooms are furnished with quality antiques, and are very comfortable down to the smooth ironed sheets on the beds.
The breakfasts are also superb, freshly home baked breads etc., and beautifully cooked to order breakfasts.
Berna showed us the more personal side of Ireland that perhaps one may miss if staying at large hotels. We had a lovely 4 days in Galway.
Devondell is located between Salthill and Galway town centres, where the restaurants are. Salthill is on Galway Bay and is about a 10 minute level walk, and Galway, with it's old town centre is about 20 minute level walk.
Very highly recommended.

If it's character your after, Devondell is your place–charming antiques and bric-a-brac abound. I felt like I was visiting the cozy home of a favorite Aunt. I only wish I had stayed longer and had more time to chat with Berna.

My room was quaint and comfy. Nothing fancy, but very clean and welcoming. Normally, I don't go in for lace and doilies, but I wouldn't want to lay my head on any other embroidered pillowcase in Galway.

Tea was a treat. I was seated at a small round table covered with all manner of goodies, Berna bustled about, and asked me if I liked my tea, "Weak or strong, dear?" She served *real* tea, the kind that requires a strainer. As I dove into the treats she had arranged on a porcelain cake stand(!) she emerged from the kitchen with a bowl of fresh whipped cream, spoon in hand.

Breakfast was phenomenal, it put 90% of the "hottest" brunch spots i've been to in LA or SF to shame. And I know a thing or two about spending too much money on food (just ask my groaning credit card, currently locked in a drawer). Homemade scones and jams, Irish butter, stewed fruit, yogurt, bananas baked in cinnamon, fruit salad... and that's not even the "cooked" bit. Off the cooked menu, I chose a smoked salmon scramble, which was lovingly served with a carved tomato rosette. I enjoyed breakfast so much I almost missed my train!

This place is the real deal, not some slick urban hotel with a "pillow menu."

The Devondell is a lovely bed and breakfast facility and the owner Berna Kelly makes your stay very special. A welcome pot of tea, great breakfasts, and Bern's Irish charm give warmth to your day despite the cool weather.

You can walk to the city and you are a short drive to the Cliffs of Moer and Connemara.

Stayed with Berna at her B & B early October. We were made to feel so welcome on a very wet miserable Galway afternoon. Tea and cakes around the fire in candle lit sitting room. Berna told us about the area and suggested various place to visit. The rooms were very clean, charming and quiet. The breakfast spread was amazing, it looked as good as it tasted, much better than I have had in five star hotels. We had never visited Ireland before and Berna made our trip with her warmth and hospitality. We wished we were staying longer. Can't recommend this B & B enough- it was outstanding.
