This B&B is amazing! Berna was so lovely and made me feel very welcome, the rooms were beautifully presented and spotless.
I woke up the next morning to the smell of cinnamon. Berna warned me the breakfast was "simple" but instead it turned out to the best breakfast I've ever had (sorry mum). There is something for everyone, and lots of it. All freshly prepared by Berna.
There were two couples visiting at the same time as me who had stayed at Devondell on numerous occasions, which speaks for itself I think.
Berna is happy to recommend things to do and can help you to organise tours if you would like. I went to Connemara and she called to make the booking and asked them to pick me up at the end of the street which was helpful for an early start. It allowed me more time for that delicious breakfast!
The B&B is not in the centre of Galway but just outside which only takes 10mins to walk otherwise there is a bus stop nearby. It's a really nice walk too.
If I am in Galway again, there is only one place I would stay! And at 50 euro a night for a single it is the perfect weekend getaway.

We enjoyed two nights here. We stayed in a different room each night. The first had a queen bed and large bathroom with a deep wonderful tub. The second had twin beds with a small bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the rooms very clean. The breakfasts were exceptional - homemade raspberry muffins that were fabulous. Our host had a unique breakfast menu that was so enjoyable. There was an extensive fruit selection each morning - loved that! Our host saw to our every need - she was wonderful. There is off the street parking. Galway city was a short walk for us. Galway was an interesting city to visit. We were able to get laundry done down in Salthill - several blocks from the B&B. We dropped the bags off in the morning and picked our laundry up that afternoon. The charge is 10 euro per bag.

For our quick one week trip of Ireland we stayed mostly at B & B's. This was the best one by a long shot. Berna makes the B&B what it is.

After flying to Ireland all night and then driving across the Island we arrived tired and hungry so she provided a wonderful afternoon "tea" that left us stuffed.

The other reviews of breakfast are right on. You couldn't purchase a finer breakfast.

At twice the price I would still gladly pay to stay with Berna. I would love to go back and stay at the B&B for a week.

My husband and I stayed with Berna Kelly last week - what a fantastic find! The B & B was truly the highlight of the trip. Devondell is located on a quite cul-de-sac about 10 minutes' walk from the heart of Galway. When we checked in, she couldn't have been more welcoming, offering us tea or coffee and "biscuits" and then providing us with maps and walking directions to downtown when we expressed an interest in going for a stroll. She also offered advice on pubs that did early music from 5:30-7:30, and had a selection of menus for restaurants so we could think about what we wanted to do as we set out. When we came back, she had lit a peat fire in the guest parlor and we enjoyed sitting on the couch for a while. Breakfast the next morning was fancier than anything I've ever seen. We both ordered fruit and nut waffles, and and another guest tried her specialty pancakes which looked equally amazing. Her sideboard was loaded with fresh baked scones, toast, fruit salad, yogurt, you name it. We enjoyed chatting with her and the other guests (C & A from TN - thanks for the advice on Bunratty/Ring of Kerry!) and were sorry we weren't staying longer, although I might have been five pounds heavier if we'd stayed another night. Overall a wonderful experience and a fabulous hostess.

  • Liked — Charming B & B, fantastic breakfast
  • Disliked — I couldn't think of a thing I didn't like.
