I was on a mission to book a room at Devondell since I read great reviews on here and in Frommer's. We weren't disappointed! Berna's house is so cute, and she's a wonderful and knowledgeable host. I also can't say enough about the breakfasts.
We were greeted with tea and wonderful pastries the night we arrived. Berna was incredibly helpful in helping us to pick places to eat (which we enjoyed and were reasonable in price) and set up a tour to the Cliffs of Moher, which was one of our major reasons for coming to Galway. The next morning the tour company picked us up for the tour, which was helpful, since I found her house to be quite a ways from town (it took us about 25 minutes to walk from Galway proper).
Her house is beautiful and the rooms are so sweet (all named after flowers). We had a big bathroom, stocked with everything we needed, and the bed was comfortable. It was also very quiet.
Finally, I booked based partially on the raves about her breakfasts, and they definitely lived up to, and exceeded expectations. She had a full spread of scones, granola, cereal, yogurt, and fruit, and that was before you'd even ordered your hot meal! I had blue cheese pancakes one morning and fried goat cheese the next, which was adventuresome for me and totally worth it.
It was a great stay, and my boyfriend and I are now talking about doing a tour of Ireland staying in B & Bs based on our experience at Devondell. Such a sweet place!
