I was treated to a 5 night stay in the Radisson Hotel in Galway by my husband as a birthday treat 2 years ago - Unbeknowns to me until we arrived, my husband had booked us into the executive Level 5 floor which has luxurious suites overlooking the lough - the rooms are literally the size of a house complete with fabulous balcony, 42 inch plasma screen on the wall, surround sound, remote control lighting and a bed that would house a family! (I kid you not!).

The location of the hotel is perfect - you have your peace and quiet overlooking the tranquility of the lough, but you are also just a mere 5 minute walk away (even less I think) to the main shopping area in Galway - a shoppers heaven in comparison to rip off Dublin!!

The staff in the hotel were so pleasent and attentive to our needs, no request was too great or too small......we felt so well looked after. The exclusivity of staying in "level 5" meant that we had a key card that would only grant holiday makers that had booked into the floor access from the lift to the bedrooms - so the floor was lovely and quiet. The Club level even had its own "executive lounge" which provided you with free cappucinos etc... all day along with unlimited access to the internet - you were even invited to a reception every day with free drinks and nibblies provided - although to be fair, we never got round to going as we were usually out in the shops or chilling in the room. (lazy I know!)

The Restaurant in the hotel is amazing - my husband and I are both foodies and envisaged ourselves going out for dinner most days, however, we found the quality of the food so fabulous that we only ventured out 2 of the 5 nights!

The Spa Facilities are some of the highest standards we have ever seen - the thermal suite is a must - for only €15 you are granted unlimited access to it for the whole day - which is easily done as there is so much to do in it.

All in all, we had a super time. If you can afford to treat yourself to a club level 5 stay do it - its well worth the extra money. Next time we travel to Galway, We will definately be staying here again!

  • Liked — The restaurant and the amazing rooms in Level 5
  • Disliked — Could not fault the accomodation - it was amazing.

my wife and i stayed in the radisson for a weekend in september 2006. I had seen a number of the complaints about the hotel which i found surprising ( i regarded it as one of the best in Galway, and i've stayed in almost all of them). Location is excellent, parking is free in the (somewhat maze like )underground car park. Lobby is bright and airy, and we were quickly shown to our room ( 209) overlooking the (sea)lake, lough atalia. bedroom was large, comfortable and quiet, although late at night i could faintly hear the bass from the club downstairs, although not enough to vaguely bother us. Not too many Tv channels, the usual news/sport/ pay porn /film options.
Decided on breakfast in the room, got it at the exact time we wanted, 28 euro for two, we felt it was fine, as it was large, and spared us getting up early. ( breakfast in restaurant finishes at 10.30 am on sundays, could be later) Later on, had the buffet lunch in the Marina restaurant downstairs, 56 euro for two. Not the cheapest, but if you go and are hungry it's good value. Wine is included, all food you can eat, stay as long as you want. Children under 6 ( i think) were free. Staff, while sparse on the ground given the size of the room, were efficient and friendly, but the self service means you don't need tham as much anyway.
overall, we had no complaints, the location cannot be bettered, and if you can get a room with a sea view do so, cause it's worth it.
would stay again, no question!

Stayed one night and was very disappointed. We were initially very pleased with our spacious corner room overlooking Lough Atalia, but no one warned us about the nightclub "Club Q" in the same complex! Hundreds of rowdy young people were queuing up to get in right under our window - the noise carried on way past midnight, although there were bouncers from the Club trying to keep control, we were kept awake by the crowd and some unrepeatable obscenities when rows broke out. When we mentioned this to the hotel, we were told it was NOT a night club but an "Entertainment Centre". Who were they kidding?? And it was a mid-week night. Imagine what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night!

Service in the hotel was on the whole poor - we tried to get a drink in the piano bar after dinner but the staff were too busy sorting cutlery and ignored us. We had to go up to the bar ourselves in the end. When we asked to sign for the bill, it was just a slip put on the table. It was not in a folder, and they didn't even offer us a pen! Breakfast was chaotic, and again it was hard to get the attention of the staff to order toast. The room itself was nice, but there were disgusting black stains on the bath towel - I asked for a clean towel at reception, and a much smaller (though clean) towel was sent up. On the whole, well below the usual Radisson standards!

Stayed here for a Saturday night in September 2006 with my girlfriend. As one of the previous reviewers has mentioned the hotel car park is called Q-Park...shared with Fairgreen Hotel and is also a public car park...entrance is just located between the hotels!!! Had a bit of confusion trying to get to the hotel from the car park...finding the right door to the lifts!!!
Reception is nice and modern...plenty of staff on...cool glass lifts!!!
Had a cocktail in the bar in the evening...lovely seated area with a funky fireplace!!! Unfortunately at the time of year the weather and light wasn't too good to enjoy the outside seated area that enjoys beautiful views over the lough!!!
We were given a letter when we checked in telling us breakfast got busy between 9:45-10:30am on weekend mornings...and that there are often queues then!!! We went down at about 9 o'clock...only 1 couple in front of us...and the restaurant was empty...happy days!!! Choice for breakfast was just typical for a hotel!!!
Our room was well decorated...a good size...and also only had a double bed in it which added a bit of a personal touch!!! A lot of hotels you order a double room and end up with a double bed and single bed in the room!!! Had a mini bar...and a container for fetching ice at the end of your corridor...convenient if you've brought your own champagne and glasses!!!
Leisure centre...superb...given a key for your locker, provided with towels...has an outdoor hot-tub with outstanding views!!!
Overall...very pleased with our stay...5 minutes walking to Eyre Square...if it even is that long!!! Worth the 220 Euros I paid!!!

  • Liked — The hot-tub in the leisure centre
  • Disliked — Nothing really

It was a love hate relationship during our stay. We based our Connemara touring from this hotel for a couple of days. Checked in late, room was great...nice size....good layout....and great view of the River. We ate dinner out of convenience downstairs, and had a relaxed and enjoyabel meal in their "chic" restaurant. Returned to the room to find absolute mayhem outside, which echoed inside. Apparently they are in the night club business as well, and Thurs. and Sat. nights they open up a club in the parking garage that attracts a noisy and unruly bunch of Galway students and locals. There was a line around the building, fights, screaming, and bedlam. We called the front desk and was told that once they all got inside, we would only hear the bass from the club. At least they were honest. They tried to move us to a quieter wing, but to no avail, but they did try with all earnesty and sincerity. We just turned on the classical radio really loud until 3 AM and toughed it out. Next night (Fri) = no club and no problems. I would recommend they choose whether they are in the nightlfe business or hospitality...the combo conflicts.
