Just back from a weekend.

This hotel is excellent but badly managed.

the good points first

Great pool and spa area
very good breakfast but queues are silly/
rooms are really nice.
nice piano music at weekends in a cool bar.

the weak points

The staff don't know how to direct you to the hotel as they are not natives and their directions are crazy, others had the same problem. Ask for the front door porter he is only a kid but he speaks english and knows where the hotel is by car. Oh its hard to find.

The shampoos provided are of a very cheap quality not befiting a hotel like this let alone a band b,

The mini bar was only half stocked., with cans of beer not bottles.

We needed plasters for a minor cut, it took 45 minutes and serveral calls.

The house wine in the front bar tastes like vinegar, really nasty.

conclusion.

The hotel is as good as many five star hotels in its decor. but it really poorly run and staff need training. The restaurant staff ignore most requests for tea etc at breakfast.

Its still my favourite in Galway. Pricey yes. room on fourth floor are best and ask for lake view

Just back from a long weekend at Galway staying 3 nights at the Fairgreen. I booked it for my husbands birthday treat. Very glad I found this web site as I was originally going to book another hotel until I read the reviews. I was very pleased with the room - good size room, big bed and to a high standard of decor. Whole hotel was clean and in good decor - glad to see the race horse murals on the breakfast room walls that can be seen on many web sites have been removed and replaced with some lovely art work.

When we arrived staff were friendly, although they appeared surprised that we had arrived as they thought we had changed our booking to August - which we hadn't - they confirmed they had a room for us and said they would enquire with other staff to see how the wrong information had been sent to them. Hotel is very well siituated with only a three minute walk to the main square. There is a little building work going on in the general area but as we were up and about it didn't bother us. The only major complaint (but I have no doubt it is a complaint that could be for many hotels) was the noise we could hear early in the morning. We were woken at 7.18am on the Saturday morning by delivery trucks and large lorries making deliveries to the hotel. We had a room that was immediately above the reception entrance on the first floor so we were close to the noise. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get a lie in. The weather was warm so we had our window open all night which didn't help with the noise. The hotel is situated in a court yard like area which has the Radisson Hotel opposite. The Radisson has a disco and as the no smoking laws mean people have to congregate outside for a smoke you will hear the joyous chat of the crowd. This was only really on the friday and saturday night but as we were out socialising ourselves we did not hear much of it!!Having said all this, if the delivery vans are away and its not a club night the court yard area is very quiet which can't be said for some hotels that are directly on the busy square.

Galway City is a small place. We managed to see all the things on our list in one day plus time to eat and drink and chill. We took a bus tour to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher - not for anyone who gets travel sick!!!!!! Very narrow twisty roads! Be warned! Tigh Coili’s is a great pub for traditional music. We also ate at a really lovely homely restaurant through the Spanish Arch - Nimmos - worth a visit. If looking for a restaurant to sit outside and catch the sun for as long as you can in the evening the Lemongrass near the Spanish Arch is great - fab food with excellant service. I'm not really in to restaurants that are part of a chain but this place changed my mind about that!

Hope you enjoy your stay. Woud have no probs recommending the Fairgreen Hotel.

I stayed here overnight and had an early checkout on a weekday. The hotel itself is comfortable and I liked the comfort of my hotel room, Staff are a bit hit and miss, bell boy was very helpful as was front of house but the manager was a little stand-offish when I asked for a room only rate. Also trying to attract the attention of the waiting staff was a bit of a challenge - they were busy watching Fr. Ted on the bar television.

Was very pleased with this location. Clean hotel, nice rooms, very affordable (we paid 83EUR a night) with a good free breakfast. Free parking in garage next door.

Location is very central to a number of good restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

Just back from a weekend in Galway. We stayed at the Radisson Hotel close to the train station and the city centre. Great location! The breakfast was superb (although the plates were not hot enough) and, although we did not eat dinner at the hotel, a friend told us the food in the restaraunt was excellent. However the whole experience was spoiled by the noise from the function room. The thumping music kept up until after 3am two nights in a row. We were not warned about the proximity of our room to the function rooms and given the purpose of our trip-business- a lack of sleep was most undesirable. I would advise guests to avoid rooms 240 - 270 at the weekend and to ask about noise when booking.
