I used the Galway Radisson twice in the past couple of months. I have never had anything to worry about and am frankly surprised at some of the poor reviews other TripAdvisor contributors gave the hotel.
The hotel overlooks Lough Atalia, which is basically an inlet in Galway Bay. Sea view rooms are gorgeous... the windows seem huge when you open your curtains in the morning and there's loads of light. The standard rooms are small, but comfortable, and the suites have to be seen to be believed. If you really want pampering, you should consider Level 5 as it is the luxury floor (unfortunately budget hasn't allowed me to stay there yet, but I will!). I loved the bathrooms, the bath was huge and there was underfloor heating which is such a plus!
There's a gorgeous airy lobby, a terrace overlooking Galway Bay, and the bar is lovely. I would recommend going to the bar to get your drinks, as table service is practically unheard of in Ireland. I'm not saying the hotel doesn't do it, but I've never done anything but ordered at the bar, and that goes for most Irish people. The restaurant is very spacious and the food is rather fine, with lots of options for both dinner and lunch, but my favourite by far is the breakfast... there's just so much to eat and so much choice!
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble. I was always greeted with a smile. The girls in the spa are delightful as well, and the leisure centre staff are chatty. I fell in love with the hot tub. It was a gorgeous foggy morning when I used it and it was beyond pleasant. All I was missing was a glass of champagne.
The hotel is extremely busy at all times as it's one of the leading venues in Galway. Also there's an extremely busy nightclub situated in house so I would not recommend the Radisson for a quiet break. You don't have to be a guest to use the spa, by the way, but book well in advance, especially in the summer months.
As regards some of the other comments here; I'd love to put a couple of things straight. The hotel doesn't have a concierge, for a start... I was so impressed with the Nice Radisson's concierge that I asked! You can very easily access the car-park from the lobby. The reason there was so much building going on is that Galway is an expanding city and there is a large complex being developed adjacent to the Radisson... it's close to finished now. Galway certainly isn't as nasty or dangerous as a previous reviewer mentioned and the hotel is situated about 2 minutes walk from the city centre... how anyone thinks that's difficult to find is beyond me. Is carrying your own luggage so annoying in a four star hotel???? There are plenty of reasons to visit Galway as it's a city full of the craic and culture... and Lough Atalia is not a swamp, thank you very much!
