Our first stay here was so fantastic, we ended up booking Radisson SAS Galway on two other ocassions. It was later that we noticed some of the minor issues the hotel has which could make your stay less than perfect, and some of the rooms are a little worn looking. If possible, see your room FIRST and I only recommend a room with a water view, and finally be aware that the lifts at peak use times can be frustratingly slow. Our first stay we booked a Standard room on the second floor with water view. The room was attractive, clean, comfortable bed, nice bedding, all traveling needs taken care of and quiet. Robes and slippers are provided.
Location is convenient & short walk to Eyre Square. The car park is comped to you and we were able to leave our car all day after we checked out.
The Leisure facilities are THE TRUE GEM here and we absolutely enjoyed the indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, as well as the outdoor hot tub on a nice misty or rainy day. The extra large exercise room was well ventilated and has a great variety of machines.
The breakfast is almost completely self-serve but has great variety and abundance. I ordered hot porridge and coffee. What was nice is that most items had several choices, for instance there were four different types of yogurt, four types of juices, etc. and many vegetarian options such as fresh and dried fruits, nuts, seads, grilled tomatoes, cold cereals, etc.
The second room we booked was on the 5th Floor, a lovely suite with beautiful big windows and small balcony overlooking the water. Added features such as the complimentary wine, espresso maker and continental early morning breakfast all available in the 5th floor lounge area, as well as the business room with printer. The draperies were unfortunately rather dusty when I closed them.
The 3rd time we stayed here is when we noticed some of the minor drawbacks. The two lifts are not sufficient for a hotel of this size so you frequently are left waiting while it goes sailing past you. We gave up and took the stairs a couple of times, unfortunately once in the early morning, half asleep and on our way to the Leisure Center in our bathrobes we neglected to notice the Fire Exit sign and made the mistake of taking it, so we were locked out on the staircase. A Notice said to walk up to the 4th floor and call the White Phone so that we could get back in. So I walked up the two flights and was told they would send someone to let us back in. As we were waiting we noticed that buckets were stacked on the stairs and water was gushing down from the ceiling and wet moldy looking carpet and walls. It looked as if it has been going on for awhile.
Finally, we actually enjoyed the piano player in the lively lounge belting out Elton John songs on our first stay as it was pouring outside. The lounge is attractive with large windows, a fireplace and comfortable seating. I enjoyed the tuna sandwich from the bar menu and the wine list had what we wanted so we were happy campers. We did notice that the service is inconsistent however.
The 3rd stay the Check In took over ten minutes as he scrolled through the computer presumable looking for a room for us. When I saw the room, I was disappointed as it was worn looking and not as beautiful as the first and second room we had.
My recommendation to the management of Radisson is offer the rooms without the water view at a greatly reduced price, invest in a ventilation sytem including ceiling or wall fans, maintain all rooms at same level of maintainance, and install another Lift from the Lobby Level down to the Garage Level. A lift separate from the garage area I would think would also make it more secure for guests.
