stayed the first night in Ireland of our dream vacation at cregg. My wife and our friend were floored by the castle when we first pulled up, and we loved every second of our stay. we ended up staying another night. The music was great the host's Pat and Marie you could not find better in ireland . Dont get me wrong i am by no means a animal lover, but suzie stole my heart. we will return to stay. And to those who had negative things to say about their stays, Loosen up you just experienced a real castle with real people in a very stunning setting , Please feel free to stay at Ashford with all the other snobbs

My husband and I, together with friends, stayed at Cregg Castle for one night. We were delighted with the lovely location and the mystery and history of the Castle. We enjoyed a lovely musical evening and the interesting company of fellow travellers, followed by a hearty and delicious Irish country breakfast in the elegant dining room (probably the best furnished room in the place). The downside here is the lack of attention to cleanliness in the public spaces, untidiness and old, worn and dirty furnishings. The sleeping rooms are sparse and spotty in their furnishings, but the beds are comfortable and clean. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and would likely return but not for an extended stay.

I didn't really know what to expect from Cregg Castle because of the mixed reviews. However, it was all that I dreamed of as a unique experience of old world charm and a real taste of Ireland. What one must realize is this is a place of not only a lodging, but a family of gentlemen farmer's and musicians who have a very busy lifestyle. The lovely Sue, who cooked our breakfast and accomodated us so nicely, was a delight.
Our room was fine, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. Excellent brown bread, and stir fried mushrooms and tomatoes. Fancy towels and the such do not impress me and are not a priority. I want to experience the misty forest and mysterious stone walls and moss, and that is what Cregg Castle is all about. What a charming place, and the animals are wonderful, especially fiesty Charlie the Westie, the ole' timer Magoo, and homely little Elvis. Don't wear your good clothes because you will get a muddy welcome of numerous paws as you enter into the courtyard and barnyard.

Sad to leave and wish I had more time here. Ann Marie is eccentric and goes into her own zone while playing her instrument in a unique way, and Paddy has played with the Chieftains and toured with Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames with his uillian pipes. Despite there recent split they manage to still give their guests a nice performance. Not many other B&B's provide such a nice atmosphere, so any music is a welcomed gift.

I would recommend this castle, a diamond in the rough, not fancy but real and I can't wait to return when I plan to do the Lake Region and Achill Island.

Cregg Castle was one of the highlights of my holiday. Those expecting an Ashford type of castle should probably stay away. Those people who don’t like animals should also stay away. Ann Marie is a character and I can imagine that she might upset the odd person. To use an old expression she calls a spade a spade and does not fawn all over her guests. Her generosity lies in opening up this wonderful old house for others to share. Everyone is encouraged to chill out, relax and enjoy. Some folk are just too uptight to be able to do that.

There is a kitchen for guests use to make tea or coffee, a fridge for your beer or wine. The great hall is available all day to sit and read, chat or just be quiet. There is a CD player and a stack of CD’s – help your self. There are dogs galore to pat and play with – we enjoyed that as we were missing our own muts. There are lovely green grounds to explore with the help of a dog or two. There are a stack of Wellington boots under the front stairs for anyone who wants them.

Our room was huge with a four poster and two single beds. We had an en suite and views of the grounds. Breakfast was terrific and we could have it any time we liked.
The location was perfect for day trips. What more could youwant?

We stayed in Cregg Castle for two nights. We are experienced travelers and found the amenities sadly lacking for the price. Details such as quality of sheets (torn), towels (thin), and inadequate bathroom facilities (lack of hot water, a toilet seat which fell off) dampened our enthusiasm. Their website led us to expect quality music performed by the hosts in the evenings. Unfortunately, the quality music and the hosts were not present during our stay. The breakfast staff of one seemed overworked. A post trip email to Cregg pointing out where some improvements could be made was met with a caustic reply. We experienced much better in our travels throughout this wonderful country.
