“Great Way To Spend An Hour In Galway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

I thought 'a museum in Galway?' I was surprised by how interesting it was! Admission is at no charge and there are good bathrooms as you enter and an excellent cafe that serves cake...but the exhibits were actually cool! History told through artifacts helps us appreciate things a bit better. I really liked the military display on the second floor...the propaganda posters were awesome!
Finish the hour tour with a well deserved coffee and cake. Then head right outside to see the Spanish arch. You won't be disappointed with this plan!

We did the museum, it's a nice place to get galway history. Free, go at you're own pace, Spanish arch behind.

“A great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Don't miss this museum! The building itself is well laid out and very intuitive. The exhibits trace the history of Galway (and Ireland to a degree) and its people. It was great, and it's free!

“Attractive and educational museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

If you have an hour or two to spare in Galway, I doubt you'll regret taking the time to find this museum. It is located in the centre of Galway, on the banks of the River Corrib and overlooking the Spanish Arch. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and admission is free.

There are permanent and temporary exhibitons spread over three floors covering a range of themes all relating to the history and heritage of Galway. There is also a cafe on the ground floor.
