The Galway Bay Hotel is situated overlooking the beatuiful GALWAY BAY.
I did all my booking etc on the net and there was no problems. The package included breakfast and that was very nice indeed.

We did not have a room ovelooking the bay but the balcony did and we had coffee and drinks there.
We walked to Galway (about 20 mins) along the causeway, and through the Cladagh village. very peaceful. The shopping in Galway was very good and inexpensive comapred to Dublin etc.
We had tea/dinner at Busker Browne's and it was also first class. We decided to be local and caught the bus back to the Hotel. What a great idea, we saw parts of Galway and Salthill that only locals see and for just 2Euro each. bargin.
The hotel staff were very pleasant but busy.
The breakfast in the morning was just outstanding and well worth the effort. We had a table by a window and for our first morning in Ireland it was just unforgettable.

Although it was a bit more expensive it was worth it.

We spent three nights at the Galway Bay. Paid the extra for a room at the front with a fabulous view of the bay.Well worth 14 euro a night extra. Ate at the restaurant on two nights and really enjoyed the food and service. Breakfast was nice . Its an eight euro taxi ride from Galway city. Thats reasonable. If you dont want to pay this (as previous reviewers)get a bus. Rooms are nice. Perhaps 3.5star. Fabulous lounge and public areas. The hotel pub is awful. A dreary dark shebeen. Please management smarten it up. It reminds me of Ireland in the seventies. Also it only opens in the evening. Fancy a lunchtime drink here? Sorry. No chance unless you can find a staff member and feel embarassed to ask for a drink. This hotel has a fabulous location with stunning views. They just need to wake up and remember that customers have a choice and will go elsewhere ( The Salthill Hotel perhaps)if they dont wake up

Having booked knowing the hotel was a little out of the city centre it turns out to be a good 20 min easy walk or a 8 Euro cab ride.

Our room was not available upon arrival as the manager explained that a guest had been taken ill and not vacated. We were transferred to the next hotel along which was a three star for the night, not as nice.

In order to compensate we were treated in the Galway Bay Hotel resturant to a free meal that night with a bottle of wine which was very good fare. The second and last night of our trip we were upgraded to a suite as further compensation at no extra cost by the manager. The staff although busy were freindly and helpful.

The suite was spacious and looked out over the bay at the front of the hotel and was extremely comftable.

After the initial hiccup the hotel made up for everything and provided us with a great stay.

We would return as they were so polite.

Many thanks

Perry and Kathy

I stayed at the Galway Bay Hotel a few years back and even though it was just before Christmas and there was quite a nice atmosphere in the hotel, overall I wasn't impressed. I was expecting a lot more from it as it is a 4 star hotel. Decor was fine but both myself and my partner were unimpressed by the food. Very poor for a 4 star. Not a bad location if you don't mind being out of the city centre but there is very little to see and do in Salthill. There are better hotels in Galway.
