“A great welcome & excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2011

Stayed for a Saturday night in May. We were met at the front door by Mr Dan Murphy (General Manager) and warmly welcomed, even though there was a formal dinner taking place.
The Hotel is enviously located on the main promenade, overlooking Galway Bay. It's very clean, welcoming, non-pretentious and seems to cater for a wide demographic.
There is a lovely trad bar in the middle of the hotel, that serves a good pint and is staffed by very nice genuinely professional people.
We had a great breakfast the next day in the main restaurant; (unfortunatley all the nice views were taken by earlier risers) and were checked out with little fuss and no trouble.
Although not the newest looking place, there is a warmth, welcome and comfort that you don't get in the newer hotels. I can see why this hotel has won so many awards over the years. Would definatley come back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Bay

Can't be beaten on location. Rooms average enough for the price. More expensive than the hotel next door, but having stayed in both, there is little difference between them. Broadband wasn't working in the rooms and a guy was sent up to help but he only changed the settings on our computer. Overall, it was fine but pricey.

Dear ‘BeckyD1’,

Thank you for your recent review of the Galway Bay Hotel and thank you also, most sincerely for choosing to stay with us on your recent trip to Galway. I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay here and I look forward to hopefully welcoming you back at some stage in the future. We do have complimentary wired broadband in all of our guest bedrooms along with complimentary wireless broadband throughout the hotel, including in our guest bedrooms. Also, we have recently installed the new ‘print me’ technology, whereby should any hotel guest need documents printed from their laptop they can dial into our hotel system and have the documents printed in our hotel Business Center and then delivered to the guest bedroom by hotel staff. Being a very busy conference and leisure hotel we also have an in house IT Manager on duty throughout the day, to aid all guests, as modern technology being what it is, guests can have certain issues or so with their own personal laptops or equipment.
Warm regards,
Dan Murphy.

I have stayed here a number of times previously and this time it was just a two night stay. Room as always was immaculate.
We didn't have dinner in the Lobster Pot restaurant this time but did eat in the bistro which was superb. Breakfast was lovely too - always enjoy the full Irish. Wish I could visit more regularly

I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It is a large busy spot. Bar is dark, service good, but lacks that great bar feeling. Breakfast was standard fare. Parking ample. Hotel is tired looking and in spots dirty. Elevators reeked of cigarette smoke, floors are not segregated for smokers. Swing fire doors divide areas, and are left open during day, therefore the nonsmoking rooms also reek of smoke. Smokers congregate outside front door and it continues to waft in. (nothing worse than a reformed smoker eh??) Carpets are dirty and old. Furniture is dated and dirty. Room was large, bed was clean. Bathroom was very tiny and crowded as a jaccuzi tub was included. Tub was extremely dangerous to use (high tub wall and over hanging rain shower pipe). Hotel is outside of the city proper by a few miles, but the area it is in is quite seedy, maybe it improves in the summer??
Staff were not friendly and came across as rude at times.
Came away with a creepy feeling... and such a waste of money.

Dear ‘Joyce333’,

Thank you for choosing to stay in the Galway Bay Hotel recently. I and all on the team are extremely saddened to view your comments following on from your stay here. As a team, we are extremely disappointed that you left the hotel less than happy and we would like to apologise to you most sincerely. We would welcome the opportunity to regain your confidence with us at some stage in the future. We do have a non smoking bedroom floor with 70 plus bedrooms on it and it also must be said that when any guest requests a non smoking bedroom they are allocated one. This has never been an issue since the opening of the hotel. Like all hotels, worldwide, there are magnetized fire doors throughout the bedroom corridors. These doors are only activated/released in the case of a fire and are not used to divide any areas at any time. We do have specific smoking designated areas for guests to use and are situated in our car park and also on our terrace area. Over the last three years or so we have replaced all hotel carpets as part of our ongoing refurbishment program and all carpets throughout the hotel are addressed weekly as part of our structured weekly deep cleaning process. Our hotel bathrooms are standard size for the industry and are very well appointed throughout. Our location is on the promenade in Salthill, over looking the beautiful Clare hills and the famous Galway Bay, if one wished to walk into the centre of town it would probably take 20 minutes to do so – particularly when admiring the beautiful sea views along the way. I do get very positive feedback on a daily and weekly basis regarding the atmosphere in our ‘An Scadan Coach’ bar which has a specific Irish theme and feel to it. One of the core values we have in place for all of our team members is ‘Positive Personality.’ This core value is part of all we do and I am happy to report that the consistent feedback I receive from guests of the hotel regarding the team in this regard is superb. As I mention above I would welcome the opportunity to regain your confidence with us here in the Galway Bay Hotel and I would be delighted if you dropped me a line at dmurphy@galwaybayhotel.com.
Sincerely,
Dan Murphy.

My husband and I stayed in the Galway Bay hotel for a weekend in April while visiting our daughter who is at university in Galway. From the moment we checked in we were greeted by friendly staff and a most welcoming atmosphere. Our room was lovely, with a beautiful view of Galway Bay. We did not dine in the restaurant either night, but we found breakfast to be top quality with an excellent selection to suit everybody's tastes - including gluten free options!! The restaurant was extremely busy both mornings, but we were well looked after by our waitress who served us with a smile!! Our room and most importantly our bathroom were exceptionally clean. We could not fault this hotel and will definitely be returning! Well done to all!

I attended a wedding last week and stayed here for the weekend. I can't praise the staff and hotel enough! - From the moment we arrived we were treated so attentively and made feel very welcome. On the night of arrival we enjoyed a few drinks in the cosy bar where they had some good music to entertain us. The Lobster Pot restaurant, was more than a surprise where they had an extensive tasty menu and seemed busy all evening! I enjoyed a delicious meal at a very reasonable price and service was superb. As a wedding venue I must say the hotel is ideal, very picturesque, fabulous ambienece, excellent food and drink and luxurious spotless accommodation. 10/10 a great time was had by all, -highly recommend it!!

My husband and I had a recent stay at the Galway Bay Hotel as a Birthday treat!
From the moment we arrived everyone was so welcoming. Reception were great and went through everything with us from what was available in the hotel and the surrounding area. Once checked in we went for a walk around and the hotel was busy and had a great atmosphere for sure.
We opted for Bar Food as there was a big game on my husband wanted to see... the bar was buzzing. The menu choice was great and certainly resonable for the size of the portions and the quality of the food. Our meal was delicious even with the staff being so busy there was always time for a smile and a genuine courteous manner.
Our room was overlooking the Promenade and the view was only fantastic if only we had the weather but the hotel cannot provide everything! The room was certainly comfortable and we had a really enjoyable stay.
We went for a morning swim before breakfast and the facilites were great and breakfast was even better. All in all the Galway Bay Hotel is certainly a great hotel, in a fabulous location with friendly and approachable staff which is something to be very proud of. Our expectations were certainly exceeded well done.
