Just back from a weekend in the Galway bay hotel. Initital impression was good, the lobby area is very nice etc. But, I have to say the room was just so "typical" and dated - it just stank of smoke and air fresherner overkill. The smell didnt disappate all weekend despite leaving windows open all day. The carpets are just so old fashioned - real typical "hotel style". And as for the bathroom! gammy white shower curtain - real cheap cheap cheap and the tiniest bath you have ever seen. Seriously. The rooms just oozed 1985 without any charm whatsoever. The housekeeping was terrible also. They literally made the bed. My night dress was just left on the floor in a bundle and they didnt even attempt to make it appear like they had tidied anywhere else in the room. Dont get me started on the leisure centre! The use of the words "leisure centre" to desribe it is ridiculous. It is a tiny pokey pool squashed into a room . Seriously the pits. With terrible dressing rooms. If I got a FREE weekend in the Galway Bey Hotel I wouldnt go back. The reason I say this hotel is "okay" and not "terrible" is that the staff were actually nice - its not their fault the amenities sucked. PS Breakfast also very lame. If you like a fry, great. But god forbit if you woukd like a choice!!!

This is the first review I have ever given - but just had to say - Stayed at this hotel for a weekend break (2 nights B&B and 1 evening meal) the room which was a superior room had a lovely view of Galway bay and was the only thing I was happy with - I thought the room was small very ordinary and not what I thought we had paid for we paid €520 for our stay. The hotel is a 4 star which is laughable no way does it derserve this rating 2 - 3 star max. The food was very average - the dinner was very poor and tepid the cooked breakfast was terrible (there were broken egg shells stuck to the bacon and I couldn't eat the sausages there was a very strange taste from them! I was very disappointed with our stay in general and would not recommend it to anyone. Not worth the money, plus both nights there were not 1 but 2 weddings on both days - I was awoken on both nights by drunken wedding guests making there way back to there rooms.

My fiance and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Galway Bay Hotel in beautiful Salthill in Galway.
Right from the start we were looked after like royalty by all the friendly staff, especially Trisha in the bar. The restaurant served us such excellent food that we dined there twice over the weekend.
I'm not sure what the beds are made out of but they are a new level of comfort that has to be experienced to be believed. I had to be dragged out each morning.
The local area has plenty to see and do and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel for a break away.

I recently booked a 3 night break in the Galway Bay hotel with my wife and 2 young children. I have stayed in the hotel before and once again I was not dissappointed. We found the staff friendly upon arrival and were given a nice spacious room on the corner of the hotel. My eldest daughter really enjoyed the kids club which takes children up to 11pm at night. The hotel has a lovely lounge beside the main bar which caters for parents with children who want a quiet drink. The swimming pool is nice but can get a little crowded at certain times. We did not have dinner in the restaurant but we did have room service which was of a very good standard. The only criticism I would have would be the standard of breakfast and service is not quite as good as it was when I have stayed previously. One morning I asked 3 different people for a pot of tea and still did not receive it. Perhaps the chef could have a fish of the day or maybe pancakes as an option for breakfast as you can get tired of the same old fry up which was a bit bland. It would also be nice to go to a hotel that had table service for breakfast for a change. However this would not stop me returning to this hotel as I believe it has a lot of good qualities.

An absolute disgrace. . Myself and my husband and young daughter stayed in a suite and we were astonished at what was on offer for the price we payed. The room was old fashioned and sparsely furnished and quiet small. The windows in the suites are very small so don't expect breathtaking views of Galway bay.. The living room in the suite was terrible ; small, uncomfortable and very badly furnished. The bathroom was ancient and uncomfortable with no extractor fan and no window. The breakfast was barely edible. Dinner was substandard. The room was freezing. Overall I would say this was the worse hotel I have ever stayed in for this price. I am speechless that it is a 4 star hotel??!! The area around the hotel is dirty and it's also about a 35 minute walk into galway and not the '10 minutes' everyone tells you. Please do not waste your money staying in this hotel....(On a lighter note the staff were nice).
