Well, for a student accomodation, it's a very nice place! I had a single ensuite room, which was decently sized, the bathroom was fine, there was no smell at all, not perfectly clean, but still it was in good shape. The staff were really nice.....the breakfast....well, let's say pretty basic, but I found out that Irish people usually eat cereals and cornflakes, so their taste was probbably satisfied:)
My only complaint is that the key-card readers don't work propperly, so you need a little effort to open your room:)
All in all, I was pleased with the stay in Corrib Village.

  • Liked — affordable prices, nice environment, good standard
  • Disliked — distance from the center, problematic key-card readers

Booked this place for EUR80 per night (July 2008). I was fully aware this was student accommodation at the time of booking but because my meeting was at NUI Galway location was key to my choice.

Checking in at 2pm I was brusquely informed that "check-in wasn't until 4pm". Somewhat bemused by this statement, the receptionist then offered to check whether despite me being "early" whether a room was available. Unfortunately I have little control over my flight schedule, and I could have done without the attitude. Rooms were available - hence no need for the initial drama - and I was pointed in the general direction. No information regarding facilities, breakfast etc was forthcoming. Guests are most certainly an inconvenience at this place!

The room itself was musty and poorly cleaned. Evidence suggested the previous occupant had enjoyed a chocolate bar or two during their stay, and had left their DNA in the form of hair in the shower tray. Nice!

The property was advertised as having free wifi but on enquring I was told that a) the wifi was broken and b) it wasn't free anyway.

Breakfast was organised by a young guy who clearly hated his job and consisted of Rice Krispies, fruit juice and some bread. Tables of the earlier guests had yet to be cleared.

On departure they were unable to provide me with a printed invoice (essential for my expense purposes). Not only this they automatically charged my credit card in GBP rather than EURO. I would like to have been informed of this prior to this, as I always prefer to pay in local currency.

Overall an awful, overpriced place. The quality of the accommodation is almost acceptable if the rate were to reduced to 50 EURO per night. But the staff attitude is the main reason I would suggest anyone considering Corrib Village look elsewhere. I have stayed in better backpacker hostels for a fraction of the price.

We booked here for two nights in Galway. We wanted something cheap as we aould only be laying our heads there. we knew it was student accomodation and have stayed in other student accomodation in galway which is much better. the room is a dull drab grey with only a little table lamp to light the room and the smell is terrible. we arrived at 9pm and left our bags in the room and went out straight away. We got back not too late and at this stage we deceded we were leaving the next day. At 4 in the morning we were woke by the lads in the other room comming in. At 6 we were woke again by a bus revving his engine right outside our bedroom and agin at 8 by the people in our house that sat outside our window in there car drinking, smoking and blaring thier radio.(Maybe all bad luck) Breakfast was a joke. we never asked for B&B but got it anyway so we decided we get our breakfast and pack our back. We got cereal and tea as the toaster wasnt working. waste of money bring ur own cereal and bread. We we went to check out we said we didn't want to stay the second night and in fairness they were fine about it and refunded our money.. I've been a student and lived in typical 'student accomodation' but this place is a joke!!- even for backpackers. If Your on a budget there is still much better place- Court Na Rosi, Gort Na Corrib or Sleepzone to name a few. Dont stay here. Couldn't wait to get out of the place. The worst place i've ever stayed and i've stayed in some bad places!!

  • Liked — Nothing- ripped off for the price-you can get a B&B for the same price
  • Disliked — Smell, Colour, Size,Furniture, Noise, Everything and i means really cheap, basic

I booked one night here to break a long journey as the hotel i had been hoping to use was fully booked. I was travelling with my 2 year old daughter so i booked us a double room with breakfast, thinking that for such a cheap price I dont mind sharing a bed with a toddler. I was fully aware that we would be using student accommodation, and was by no means expecting a 5 star hotel.....
However, when we eventually found the place it was clear that there were going to be a few problems. I parked the car at the reception area and went inside with my daughter. It appears that the staff are very new and very inexperienced. The most senior girl on the desk had to hand-write me a receipt as she didnt know how to print one. While i was stood there, one unfortunate man had to come back twice as he had been given the wrong room key. Both times there had been someone already in the room when he got there and he had just walked in on them. Two young boys asked one of the girls on the desk for a room key as they had lost theirs. She gave them one without question, and they returned 5 minutes later to say they had given her the wrong room number. The girl had just handed out a room key to somebody else's room!
I was hardly surprised then to find that we too had been given the wrong key, and was quite annoyed to have to go back and get another one. While the girls were polite and friendly enough, they did not seem at all bothered by the number of mistakes that were being made and offered no apology.
The accommodation itsself was basic, functional, and pretty bare. Although it was clean there was a stale smell and the paintwork was tired and faded. Everything in the room was shades of grey, and i felt pretty sorry for the student who had been living here in there depressing surroundings all term.
The thing that annoyed me the most was the rattling at our door handle at about 1130 pm, a female member of staff calling out "security, hello, who is in here?" !!! I could not believe that any staff member would consider it a decent level of service to do that to a paying guest at that time of night. In fact, I was absolutely furious that a staff member would put me in the position where i would have to answer the door in my nightdress to explain what i was doing there. I felt that when I paid for the room I was paying the right to have our own secure, private space for the night, but after that my trust in the security of this "hotel" was gone. It was very hard to get back to sleep after that, and i set my alarm early so we could get out of there.
Breakfast was very much "first up, best fed," with cereal toast and juice on offer. Unlike the reception, staff here were very efficient and kept the tables clean and clear for the steady stream of guests.
I will not be staying here again, I would prefer to pay the little bit extra and know that I will not be woken in the night like that. The staff just didnt seem that proffesional to me, I would have expected more than that.

I was looking for decent, cheap accommodation in Galway for about 10 people. I booked Corrib Village because it was only €60/night for a double ensuite. This included a continental breakfast.

While the facilities and location are good, the rooms are cramped, musty and rarely cleaned. The shower was filthy and the drainage so bad that after 2 minutes, the shower tray would fill with water and flood the bathroom. The walls are also paper thin, so if you do get put next to some party goers, you'll find it very tough!

The common areas were a little better, though nothing special. The breakfast room's tables weren't cleared and the two staff on duty looked like they had better places to be.

If you're on a very tight budget, Corrib Village would be okay, but for anyone else, I wouldn't recommend it.

  • Liked — The location and facilities - tennis courts, games room etc.
  • Disliked — Cleanliness
  • Tips/Secrets: — Get out and see Galway rather than stay in the rooms!
