Adare is in a convenient location for walking to the city center (just across the bridge), but the directions for driving there were terrible! We were very frustrated by the time we finally found it. It is tucked away on a tiny street that doesn't even look like a street, and there is no sign on the building except for when you're coming the other direction. I would think it would have much more specific directions on its web site or in its confirmation. It was the most expensive B&B/guesthouse we had in Ireland, and it wasn't worth it. The room smelled musty, the towels were very thin, and at breakfast, the orange juice was so watery as to be undrinkable and the coffee was bad instant coffee. We stayed there in late September 2005.

The write-up by the person who stayed in The Claddagh Suite is extremely accurate and exactly what I would say about this B&B. We looked at a room on the 3rd floor and it looked ok. They also had the Galway Suite available (right next to The Claddagh Suite and looks exactly the same) It was so quiet, I thought we were the only guests, until we got up for breakfast-which was THE best breakfast I had while touring the entire country.
Stay here. (And go to Monroes-we saw the best Irish band there, and the pizza smelled unbelievable. We just had dinner otherwise we would have had some of that!)

We chose the Adare because we were looking for something good creature comforts, in town, reasonably priced - and it fulfilled those criteria.

The main house was built in the '50s, and although we didn't see those rooms, I would guess that they are smaller than those in the addition that was put in more recently which contains two "suites" with king sized beds.

The hotel is a short walk (3 min?) over the river to town and 1000% quiter than being in town. The room was comfortable with two little hitches - one afternoon the hot water died (although we had boiling hot water at all other times), and in the morning the sound of the filling radiator will probably wake you at 8AM.

Other than that - it was good. Breakfast is indeed excellent.

I booked our reservations at Adare based on the the reviews, but must say that we were very dissapointed with the experience. I have to preface this review by saying that even though we had reservations, we never spent a night because the rooms were very unsatisfactory. Adare was completely sold out and we were shown two rooms - the beds in each room were old and lumpy and the walls were paper thin. The final decision to not stay there was made when we were able to clearly hear the discussion going on in the next room as well as doors closing and water running. I can't really see how anyone can have a restful stay. I would strongly recommend not staying here if you have a back problem as the beds - at least the ones we were shown - were old, soft and lumpy.

It takes no time at all to walk to the center of Galway from this location, maybe 5 minutes. Monroe's pub is just down the street too (a recommended spot in several books). The location is quiet too, so best of both worlds. Good size room, good shower pressure and temp. And last and certainly not least, a fab breakfast and friendly staff. When I'm in Galway again, I will stay here.
