When we arrived in Galway with no reservation, we found it difficult to find a hotel with vacancies and so were pleased to be able to book a room here.

It's an average place. Our room was clean, and the service and breakfast that were provided were adequate. Free WI-FI access is available in the lobby.

I'd stay there again.

I have just returned from a night's stay at the Victoria last week while I was in Galway on business.
On entering my room (109), I was hit by a disgutsting smell of grease and cooking smells as if I was in a kitchen. I soon found out where it came from- one of the windows was wide open and the view was noisy extractor fan. Even closing the window did not block out the noise or the smell that lingered in the room!!!
I asked reception if they could switch my room but was rudely told that they didn't have another room to give me. I noted that they had a huge neon light outside the hotel, lit up- VACANCIES. They denied there were actually vacancies so I got a friend to call up the hotel to enquire about a room for the night and they were told there were some triple rooms available!!
I was appalled that the hotel still refused to give me a different room and was made to spend an unpleasant night in a smelly and noisy hotel. I would not stay here again if they paid me and DO NOT recommend this place to anybody. There are plenty of hotels around Eyre Square that I'm sure would be of better quality.

I stayed in this hotel on a Sunday night with my boyfriend and we were fairly pleased with it. The room was quite small but clean and the bathroom was pretty spacious with a nice big, deep tub. The one thing that bothered my boyfriend was the size of the tv (I think it may have been an 18" screen) because it was quite small. The manager mentioned that they were in the process of changing all the tvs to a larger size so that might not be an issue for much longer and it might not be an issue for most people that want to be out and about the town. We were trying to recover/detox from an Irish wedding the night before so we probably spent more time than most people in the room! ;-) The bar was quite nice and had beautiful wood work but we were one of the few people in there. The staff was very nice and we found the hotel to be very quiet but I don't think they were very busy that night. The Skeff was a great bar about a minute walk from the hotel and the rest of all the action was just another few minutes walk around the corner. I loved Galway City and I enjoyed this hotel.

  • Liked — the location - very close to the center but without all the street noise
  • Disliked — room was very small

My husband and I recently stayed here for a weekend. Our room was immaculate, bathroom was modern and spotless. It is one block from Eyre Square and 1/2 block from all the tour buses that go to Connemara and Cliffs of Moher. We were on the top floor and it was not it the least bit noisy. The staff were friendly and helpful and you will not find a better priced hotel in Galway. It is a perfectly fine 3 star hotel. I was worried before we got there due to the reviews here and we were so relieved to find there had been nothing at all to worry about!
