I was looking for a pleasant place close to town. Ashford Manor exceeded my expectations. It was very clean, the breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, it was a short walk to all the shops, and the people were warm and friendly.
The host arranged a trip to the Aran Islands for me as well.
I spent 3 days at this B&B and definitely will go back again.

Well, last time, Feb. 2008, I already expressed my satisfaction with my stay at Ashford Manor, College Road 7, Galway city.
This time I went prepared to stay there 2 nights, June 26&27.. What a comfort to call unexpectedly on Jun 25th and find out that a room would be availabe despite the short notice and adverse circumstances of coming into Shannon Airport at 10.30pm and only getting the next Citylink bus to Galway at 12.45!!! I reached at 2.00am and could immediately get into a comfortable bed with the prospect of a hearty breakfast at the convenient hour of 9.45am. Thank you Tom and Corinne.

Very disappointing standard. The building looks lovely from the outside and the reception area is very nice also but so misleading! Myself and my friends were led out through the back of the property to another house which also contained rooms. The rooms weren't great - very cramped. The carpets were filthy and were covered in stains...as were the duvet covers. There was carpet in the bathroom!!! They hadn't dusted the room properly in a long while as when I lifted the information booklet I could see it's outline! The beds were uncomfortable and creaked anytime you moved and the shower wasn't great either!
The breakfast was tasty and the location isn't bad but really it is not worth it! There is alot better accomadation to be found in Galway! Don't be fooled - go elsewhere!!

This B&B is possibly the worst place I have ever stayed. The reception area was nice and very mis-leading. The room was small and filthy dirty, the bed covers were yellow in colour and a layer of dirt was clearly visible, the paint was chipped off the walls and behind the bed there were large stains on the wall with looked very much like blood.

The carpet in the room was a medium blue and was covered in stains, there was a full length mirror on the wall which was cracked the entire way across and down.

The bathroom was carpeted using the same blue carpet that was in the bedroom, again it was full of stains. There were two very old grubby towels laid on the floor, I moved one of the towels and found an absolute disgusting filthy dirty stained wet sponge mat underneath.

There was mould growing around the shower cubicle and the stench in the bathroom was overwhelming.

The noise and the racket in the accommodation was awful, this noise came from staff and not from guests, it consisted of doors being slammed, a bell that rang throughout the entire building and lots of raised voices.

However, by far the worst issue in relation to this accommodation occurred at 7am the following morning. As soon as the staff began cooking breakfast there was a loud noise from something which sounded like a very sick extractor fan and the most sickly stench of dirty grease/burnt food came wafting into the bedroom, and continued to do so until 8.30am when due to my friend actually vomiting we check out and did not stay for our second night.

This type of accommodation should not be allowed to remain open.

Stayed here for one night and believe me it was one night too many!!!
Arrived on a very wet and windy Saturday evening to find that the premises didn't have adequate off street parking facilities. We eventually found a space up the road. Proceeded to check in. Then the
lady on reception continued to show to our room, she moved towards the back door of the house, as if we were going outside, which I found a bit strange, but indeed that was in fact where we were going!!! She brought us outside through what I would call some very shabby accommodation, which brought us outside again, and up some steps to the next shed, where our room was, if indeed anyone could justify calling it an ensuite room, which comes with the price tag €120 per night!!!

It was a tiny grubby room, with a double bed, dirty pillow cases and I dread to think what was under the bed, but it seemed like a pile of
dirty tissues amidst the dust!! The room was so small that the bed blocked the door which led into the ensuite!! There were lots of loose wires, where there were suppose to be light fittings! There wasn’t even a water glass provided!!

Went into the main house for breakfast which was another shambles!! We were shown a lovely breakfast menu the evening the before, and told we could pick whatever we wanted of it, however there was no menu produced in the morning!!! There were jugs out but no juice in them, the milk for the cereal was luke warm, there was a bowl with a little bit of yogurt in it on the buffet table. No bowls or cutlery provided for the cereals. We had to sit down to cluttered table, which eventually was half cleared, had to ask for cutlery. Were given
a pot of tea, which was cold. Asked for a cooked breakfast, which also arrived cold!!! I can’t understand how this establishment remains in business; I couldn’t imagine that anyone would recommend it to their friends…

I cannot comment on the bedrooms in the main house, but I really don’t imagine that they would be of any better quality.

The owners of this establishment obviously have no business acumen; I would suggest that perhaps they should spend a few days with their neighbours, in some of the other fine guest houses located along college road, so as they can see the facilities and service available
in them!

I wouldn't advise anyone to stay in Ashford Manor, it bears absolutely no resemblance to the impression we are given on their website!! All I can say is it boils down to false advertising!!! Don’t go there!!!!!

  • Liked — hated every thing about it!!
  • Disliked — way over priced...dirty with false advertising!
