Overall, this hotel represents great value for money. As other reviewers say, the outside doesn't knock you over straight away; however the inside of the hotel is very well furnished. Overall an excellent experience.

Location
The Hotel is located on the edge of Galway city centre. It's about a 15minute walk from the central area of Shop St, Quay St, etc. Expect to pay approx €6 to €8 for taxi from hotel to city. Plenty of free car parking is available at the hotel.

Rooms
Rooms are very clean and spacious with LCD TV on the wall. Wide variety of channels available.
As other reviewers say, some noise can be heard from the rooms when functions are ongoing downstairs. It's advisable to ask for a quiet room if you intend to have an early night.

Bathroom (Toilet, WC, Restroom)/Shower
Power shower with plenty of hot water, however wall mounted and extremely high up.
Bathroom clean with all basic toiletries provided. Shower Gel/Shampoo available from wall mounted unit.

Restaurant/Bars
Reasonable quality restaurant, however I would only eat there if a meal was included in the package and/or you arrive later at night. There are just too many brilliant restaurants in Galway.
Breakfast was OK with a buffet style available. Good selection of sausages, eggs, puddings, etc to make up a traditional Irish Breakfast, however a poor selection of breads, cheeses and fruit was available.
Lively Bar attached to the hotel. Live music at weekends.

Staff
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful!!!

Hope this info helps. Galway is a brilliant city, well worth a visit for a great city break or as a base for exploring the west of Ireland.

Just came back from a 2 night stay at the Menlo Park in Galway and have to say that we were very impressed. Really nice friendly staff, spacious rooms, very welcoming foyer/reception area. We choose to eat in the restaurant on the 1st night and could'nt fault the food nor the service. Bar area nice bright and relaxing. Residents lounge open after the bar closes (all night if you so choose).

It's a 10-15 min walk into town, with taxis costing about 8euro.

All in all a very nice hotel that we would'nt hesitate to return to.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left this hotel we were nothing but impressed. The staff at reception were friendly and so helpful. I had never stayed at the Menlo before and just booked on impulse and I'm so glad I did. Our room - 130, request it!! - was spacious and with a Kind size bed, it was really clean and beautifully decorated. We decided to eat in the restaurant and again were delighted we did. The service was second to none and the food was well above the usual hotel average. We had a quick drink in the bar before heading into the city and again I couldn't fault it. Sunday morning check out, which can be so busy, was dealt with quickly and efficiently and without a long wait. Overall, we will definitely be back and would recommend this hotel to anyone for it's fantastic service, lovely decor and ambiance and best of all its reasonable prices!

Last weekend, a group of us girls from work headed down to Galway for the weekend and decided to stay in the Menlo Park. First and foremost, for those looking to stay in the Galway area, the hotel is in a great location!
The rooms were well laid out, spaceous and above all else, spotless. Added bonus, duvets!!! So much nicer than the throws you generally get.
On the first night, we ate dinner in the hotel restaurant. The meal was beautiful and the service was top class. The hotel bar had a lively atmosphere and live music and it was a pleaseure to sit there and enjoy the ambience.
Our stay in the Menlo Park was excellent value for money and the staff have to be one of the best things about the hotel, friendly, warm, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Highly reccommended!!

First the good - Good location, fairly modern, clean and rates are reasonable. The quality of the food was OK.

Now the bad - We arrived early on a Saturday morning. Understandably, our rooms were not ready but we were told they would be available within two hours. 6 hours later, we finally were able to go to our rooms. The heat was not working, and the staff person sent to fix the problem told us that it would be OK in 15 minutes. There was only a slight improvement in the room temperature over the length of our stay.

On Saturday night there was a very large party at the hotel. The noise level was unbearable, and we complained 3 times to the front desk. We were told that the situation was out of their control. The noise finally died down at around 2:30 AM.

The next morning, we were told that the party was intended for a crowd of 100, but 250 people showed up! Apparently, the night staff could not control the crowd, etc. You get the picture...

At check out time, I complained to the Manager, who offered to take a day's food charges (25 euro) off of the bill. I objected, and after much deliberation, I was given credit for one night's stay for both of our rooms. This was a fair gesture by the hotel Manager.

I did not feel that this was anywhere near a 3-4 star hotel due to the overall experience.

Management response from GMMGalway, General Manager
(Management representative)
Mar 28, 2008
This is a very unfair misrepresentation of the hotel. In the ten years that the Menlo Park Hotel has been opened I am glad to say that no guest has ever waited six hours for a room. We would not be in business if we operated like that. These guests arrived very early on a busy Saturday morning on St. Patricks Weekend and they were afforded every hospitality and checked into a room by 8.50am......
Unfortunately due to the early arrival the guests were given rooms over the function room- the reason being that they were genuinely the first available rooms at 8.50am in the morning. It is an exageration to say that staff could not control the crowd at the function and it is unfortunate that the guest has claimed this. We have many happy guests who return to stay with us. In fact just last weekend a guest filled in a comment card complementing us for checking them in six hours before check in time..........
