The Marian Lodge Guesthouse is by no means flash, in fact when you enter the rooms you think you have stepped in to a timewarp - circa 1950s perhaps. This doesn't have to be a negative - think of it as quaint, I honestly don't think they have updated the decor since then. It's a little bit like your nana's house and has a bit of a nana 'mutton' smell' about it. Despite this, it is clean, and they did clean out our room everyday.
The hostess was very hospitable and very helpful and there was internet access which was great. Breakfast consisted of a full Irish breakfast and/or cereal. The only problem we had was the first morning we were there having to put up with cold showers (they obviously need to do something about their water tank as it looked like it was a busy time and obviously their water tank was not up to it.
The location is a bit far out if you want to be neear Galway City - don't bother staying there as you will need a car to get there. But close to catch the ferry to the Aran Island. Salthill is by the beach but a rather uninspiring location with not much there except crap pubs and restaurants and an 'entertainment centre' (ie: arcade).
As i said it's nothing flash and at 38 Euros per person reasonable for Ireland. For a place to kip in the evening - it's perfectly fine.
