This hotel is a building site. They do not tell you when you book but believe me it should be closed during its refurbishment program. The noise level in the rooms (from 7.30am) is unbearable. The car park is permanently full with builder's rubble and associated machinery. And it is grossly overpriced. When we arrived we had to walk in the rain from the driveway beyond the full carpark. It was not possible to even leave my wife and our cases to the front door. And the management were indifferent. Not a happy experience I am sad to say.

Stayed in the Ardilaun the weekend of April 7th with the girlfriend. Although there was some construction work was being carried out on the Lobby when we arrived it was minimal as it was almost finished, We learned later that the new ballroom was opening that night for 350 hence the work. There is some more work going on out the back but its out of the way and at the weekend there is no one working on it. Staff were extremely friendly, especially Matty the porter! Housekeeping are excellent also. I requested some extra towels form reception and literally 2 minutes late a lovely maid arrived with 4 extra towels. Ate in the restaurant the first night and the food is above average. would definitely recommend a visit. Rooms were the average hotel room although no mini bar which was dissapointing. Overall definitely worth a stay. Hotel will be fantastic when finished. Another plus is the Spa, Gym and a fine bar!

Stayed in Ardilaun House for St Patricks weekend, we love Galway and have stayed in a number of hotels in the city and i have to say unfortunately this is the worst.
This hotel is very mis-leading on their website. The rooms do not look like anything on their site. The staff were very welcoming however when we were led to our room my excitment about a relaxing weekend faded, there was a mouldy smell in corridors and the furniture was ancient. The double bed was pushed up against one wall so therefore to get out during the night u have to climb across one another! Also the bedclothes although were clean were very old and tattered. I personally didnt want to spend anytime in our hotel suite apart from sleeping!
The bathroom was very old with a dirty shower curtain across the bath. Also it is definately more than a ten minute walk to the city as we were previously told.
The good point was the restuarant was nice and the food for both breakfast and dinner was very plain but nice!
All in all i found this hotel to be a great let down and it definately doesnt deserve its four star rating.
There are plenty of nicer hotels in Galway for the same or even cheaper prices!

I booked into the Ardilaun for a friend's hen weekend, and found it to be above my expectations. I had read the recent reviews here and was a little bit put off by the mention of all the building works. However, they did not interfere with my stay at all. True, the noise situation was less than perfect, but I can live with that. The hotel was absolutly clear that there would be building going on, so we could not complain.
The room that we stayed in was huge, with two singles and one double bed, as well as a good size bathroom. The beds were incredibly comfortable, very important for me to get a good night's sleep!! The food, both at dinner and at breakfast was delicious, and we had plenty of choice. We went to bed dreaming about the dinner on Friday night,it was so good.
There are one or two things that I would like to mention about the Ardilaun. The manner of some of the staff was less than welcoming,I must admit. The girl who dealt with us was not even making an effort to be friendly. If you are not able to muster enthusiasm for greeting your guests, then you should not be working in the hospitality industry. Also the beauty salon was quite small, but that is really a minor complaint. I would have no problem going back to this particular hotel when I visit Galway in future.

Stayed recently husband and I for 3 nights....Had only been notified by a standard email going to all customers 5 days before we left for holiday break. Major refubishment going on and takes away from feeling that you are staying at a 4 star hotel..By the way I would query why they have a rating of 4 star we certainly didn't think they were. We had dinner one night and I enjoyed it had fish but my husband who had meat said it was just ok and not of 4 star quality. Our car was filthy from all the building because you are on a building site as soon as you arrive at the front entrance which is a temporary hoarding along a corridor winding its way to the front door and lobby.. We were there for Shrove Tuesday and thought it would have been a nice gesture to give all in the restaurant a complimentary pancake just part of goodwill and good practice....I could go on writing a book about this but all in all we had a good time but the hotel will most likely been nice when finished but it was disappointing to be on a building site when you are having a few days away from hustle and bustle of work etc....Don't think I will be back thought!!!!
