“A restful weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Had a pleasant 2 night say recently. The weather was miserable, but it was lovely to relax by an open fire looking out at the miserable weather. Beds were very comfy, could have stayed in it for ever. The swimming pool was lovely. The hotel is a bit away from the centre of Galway, so not for walking, unless a nice day. Approx 6 or 7 minutes by car from either city centre or Salthill.

Dear 'Car0I74',

Thank you so much.

We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay with us despite the weather - if only we could regulate the weather in Ireland - that would be just ideal!

Thank you for sharing your feedback here on tripadvisor and we hope that you will come back to stay with us again soon.

Best Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

Dear Alan,

Thank you so much for your review.

Of course, we are very disappointed to read your feedback in relation to our Leisure Club. I really would like to stress that this is not the usual feedback we get. That said, it has been communicated directly to our Leisure Club Manager and he will refer to any information which may have been recorded during November.

We would like to sincerely apologise to you for the discomfort you experienced in our Leisure Club during your stay with us and hope that you will return to stay with us again to experience the 'real' Ardilaun standards.

Kindest Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

Stayed here recently. Welcome was nice upon check in, was asked if we would be eating there to which I replied no - as we were meeting friends in town for dinner - but the receptionist continued to give me a big speel about opening and closing food times in their restaurant and bar, I could have asked for this information if I required it. We booked with a third party - supervalu breaks. I emailed the hotel the week prior to confirm my reservation and request a nice room not too far of a walk from reception. My reservation was confirmed but not my reqest nor granted. I was not impressed with the room. Small with double and single bed with just barely room for 1 locker between the 2 beds. Blue/yellow coloured old fashioned bed covers. Upon leaving the next morning we walked by rooms with the doors opened as were being cleaned and did look a little nicer (no blue bed covers) but probably the same size. On the Sunday morning I could here a guest outside our door saying their key card didn't work so the cleaner opened our door and the guest walked straight in. A short while later the cleaner knocked and walked striaght in without waiting for an answer. I know I overlooked putting out the 'do not disturb' sign, wont happen again!! I am now of the opinion if you book with third party you will be allocated the worst rooms. We did plan on having a quiet drink in the bar before heading into town but the bar was not very inviting and everyone glued to a match on tv so skipped this.

Dear 'LyndsGalway',

It is disappointing to read your review and, as you are aware, we take all feedback very seriously and where possible it is addressed immediately.

Thank you for having taken the time to speak with our reservations manager Kate since you posted this review. We value each and every customer/guest of the hotel and customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. Where necessary, all reviews are addressed and we make best attempts to speak with people in person - this is why Kate made the call to you.

Again, please accept apologies that your request was not met in terms of being allocated a room most convenient to the main reception - this was an oversight on our behalf and we are very sorry.

It is check-in procedure that guests are given information to ensure that their stay is most enjoyable and that they are aware of dining timings etc. As part of this we provide dining information to each guest on arrival to the hotel. While we appreciate that you may not have been dining in the hotel on the evening that you arrived, you may have wished to do so at another time.

All of the standard rooms in the hotel are similar but are different colour schemes. All are of four star standard and are AA certified. We have a rigorous annual inspection to maintain our four star rating. Of course, should guests wish to upgrade to superior rooms, deluxe rooms or suites, they are welcome to do so subject to availability and a supplement would apply.

We have record of the incident which occured with another guest entering your room (all incidents/report are logged by us). This is something that we apologise again for but hope that you will understand. One of our accommodation team was trying to help a guest who was insisting that they were having difficulty with entering their room despite being asked by our staff member if they were sure that the room they were trying to enter was in fact their room. The guest was indeed trying to access another room (yours) by mistake and apologised for this. A little later an accommodation staff member knocked on your door - this is the norm during room servicing time before entering any room. There was no response so she assumed that you had left the room and entered to service it for you. Again, we apologise but hope that you will understand that it was not realised that you were in the room.

We would like to stress that each and every guest of the hotel is important and is valued - irrelevant of how the booking has been made. Higher standards of accommodation are available (superior rooms, deluxe rooms, suites) should people wish to upgrade. Great care and attention is taken to maintain standards throughout the hotel in every level of accommodation and every aspect of service.

Thank you for having stayed with us.

Best Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

We recently stayed in the Ardilaun with our dog, in one of their pet friendly rooms. This was our second visit to the Ardilaun. Large room on the ground floor with own patio and access to enclosed garden. Welcome pack in room for dog including bowl, treat and printout of local walks and beaches. We were allowed to bring him up to the large reception area where we ordered a meal. We could also leave him in the room while going to the restaurant for either breakfast or dinner. Can't fault the Ardilaun for their staff and service. We were made to feel welcome and our dog was allowed everywhere except in the restaurant. Finding a dog friendly hotel in Ireland is difficult and we will definitely be visiting the Ardilaun again.

A large group of mainly Senior Citizens arrived at The Ardilaun Hotel last Sunday 28th April for a 5 day stay. We were returning there for the third time and the group favour it above several other hotels they have visited. Check-in was the fastest, most effecient we've ever experienced (One minute the foyer was filled with people and baggage and in no time was all quiet and serene) The staff are pleasant and effecient and treated the group with the utmost respect and consideration. I have to make special mention of a few that stood out, namely Kate, Maureen Tom and Joseph and of course Mr. Ryan himself. Thank you to all concerned, you made a lot of people feel very welcome. For those who have never been at the Hotel before, let me add that it is a cosy homely hotel and we will defnitely return there in the future. Isabella

Room Tip: Some rooms on the third floor are directly opposite the lift (very convenient)

6 of us recently took the special offer of 2 nights B&B plus dinner here. Our rooms were in the new block and they are fantastic. These rooms are spacious and luxurious and the beds are very comfortable. The reception area is impressive, nicely decorated and gives a welcoming feeling. Breakfast is all high quality, without exception. We had dinner in the dining room and we were all very pleased with our choices. I understand that on quieter nights, dinner is served in the bar/bistro and this may not be as good. Staff are pleasant, welcoming and helpful, without exception. The package we had was unbelievable value for money, considering the quality of the hotel. Although located a little bit out of the city (5/10 mins by taxi), the Taylors Hill location is one of the best in Galway. I am looking forward to our next visit to the Ardilaun.
