“Relaxing Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We went here for a spring break . Beautiful hotel . Our room was an up grade and it was spacious and tastefully decorated. It is a lovely base to explore Galway and the Wast of Ireland . We had a meal min the restaurant one of the evenings at it was excellent.

This was our first time to stay at the Ardilaun and I'm happy to say it's unlikley to be our last. There seems to be a culture of friendly and enthuastic service in the Ardilaun and we experienced that from the moment we checked in. Take a bow whoever engenders this level of service and also the staff who execute it with gusto. We ate in the bar on our first evening and the food was first rate. On our 2nd night we ate in the restaurant, again excellent. Breakfast was good, I'm not a fan of buffet breakfasts but it seems I'll just have to put up with them. All told, a very nice place to stay.

This was my 5th stay at the Ardilaun and once again did not disappoint. We stayed last week for 2 night break in family room (2 adults & 2 teens). The room was excellent a double bed, single bed & double pull out which suited us perfect. Good selection for breakfast and we had an evening meal included in our package for 2 adults & paid extra for kids which was really gorgeous with a huge choice & something for everyone. My husband & kids tried out the pool & had no complaints at all. Overall a great stay with lovely friendly staff. Wouldnt want to stay anywhere else when visiting Galway. Can't wait to organise our next stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Superior Family room which was great

The first room to which we were sent was old, completely unimpressive, had a distinct musty odor, and had two beds rather than one queen or king, which we had requested. After returning to the front desk and objecting, we were given another room. This one was lovely, spacious and well-decorated with modern furniture and décor. The bed was comfortable, the room quiet. There were only three or four channels on the TV. The bathroom was nice, and included both a shower-tub and a separate standing shower.

Breakfast was plentiful, hearty and varied, but not high-end (for example, the pastries appeared rather basic). The facilities in general, including the lobby, hallways, fitness center and restaurant, were fairly clean and pleasant, but in need of a face lift. Some of the floors were creaky and uneven.

I was vacillating between a 3 or 4 star rating, since 3 is "average" and 4 is "very good" (I'd have gone with a "good" option). But then I remembered the service, and that bumped it up to four stars:

The service was excellent. From the way they handled the room issue when we first arrived, to small things like helping me figure out how to change gears in our European rental car (different from the USA) to arranging for room service of items not on the menu, we never sensed a moment's hesitation to assist or reluctance to go all-out. The front desk was unpretentious, friendly, accommodating and generous. And that made all the difference in our experience. We'd return.

Room Tip: I'm not sure whether they have more recently updated certain areas of the hotel, but the differe...

We stayed here midweek and couldn't believe how great value the price was - this was really great for a central hotel in Galway City.
The room was fine, its not super modern, but its comfortable, clean and warm. Room service was not expensive and was quite fast.
Breakfast was good, the staff were very friendly, the gym and pool were nice and not busy. I can't fault the Ardilaun and I'd definitely return.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

I stayed in the Ardiluan for 2 nights as part of a wedding party. The hotel has good parking and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The decor is fairly standard, if a little dated in the corridors / lift / reception. The room was fine (if a little warm) with an old-style CRT TV, the bathroom was spacious and overall first impressions were excellent. What was a little disappointing was the room service. Because I arrived after 9pm, my only option was a sandwich of my choosing so I went with brown bread, chicken, cheese and salad. 45 minutes later a sandwich made with white bread arrived because there was nothing else available. Was a little surprised they hadnt called me back first to make sure this was okay? Salad = very old, brown lettuce (no tomato, cucumber etc as discussed when I ordered) and a small glass of wine. A little later I went down to the bar to get another glass of wine and there was a substantial difference in the size of the glass but the price was still the same!

Next morning I endeavoured to get to the hairdressers, but highly inaccurate directions from reception (including turn right at the entrance when its left-turn only) left me in a bit of a tail spin!! On return they were highly apologetic and from here on in things improved. The housekeeping staff were really helpful and friendly, the afternoon entertainment had the perfect balance of not-too-loud, not-too-intrusive but lovely music. And the catering for the wedding itself was nothing short of superb, quite possibly some of the best food I've ever eaten at a wedding. Buffet breakfast was also really delicious.

Overall I had a nice stay, the evening food was fantastic, the staff were very welcoming & helpful and its a great spot for visiting Galway and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Dont order room service after 9pm
