I recently stayed with a group of friends at the Connemara Coast Hotel having heard a rave review about it from a work colleague who had attended a conference there earlier in the year. We were not to be disappointed, this hotel has undoubtedly one of the most picturesque locations in the West, it is located right on the shores of Galway Bay overlooking the atlantic ocean. It is only ten minutes from Galway city which was ideal for us as we spent an couple of evenings in town and another two evenings exploring the local restaurants and bars. On our second night we had an excellent dinner in the hotels fine dining restaurant and afterwards went into the bar for a couple of drinks where they had live music, there was a lovely atmosphere and a great mix of people from locals to other hotel guests, the craic was mighty. From the minute we arrived the staff could not have been nicer or more genuine. They made us feel very welcome. The accommodation was luxurious, spacious and well decorated, the rooms seemed very new and fresh and wait for it... best of all, all of our rooms had the most amazing views.. what a sight to wake up to in the morning!
This hotel caters very well for those on a leisure break, they served breakfast very late which was great for a few of my friends who were there to relax and unwind. While they went for a massage in the treatment rooms and afternoon tea in one of the hotels lounges, a few of us played a round of golf in Bearna golf club which is only a couple of minutes from the hotel and went back for a swim and a dip in the outdoor hot tub ....what an experience, the sun was setting over the bay , it was a perfect evening. We can't wait to go back!

Having stayed here a few years previously, I was raving about it to my wife (who hadn't stayed) especially about the Canadian hottub outdoors...

We arrived and checked in, all fine, they made us pay up front which I thought was strange. But not to worry. As it was the weekend before valentines we thought we would have a romantic time..

Don't get me wrong, the senery out the windows was breathtaking. That's about all that was breathtaking about this hotel. We had a premium room or suite, situated in the top corner of the building. The room was FREEZING, there was a breeze coming in from the windows somehow, the heating was not on... we were bitterly cold. This is Feburary on the west coast of Ireland, you can imagine how cold it was. Next morning, no hot water. We complained and were told that the boiler 'went' during the night and apologies... fair enough we grumbled to ourselves, things happen... well things happened two nights and mornings in a row, freezing again and no hot water again.. we were told the heater 'went again' by the receptionist. Not happy in the slightest.

In the meantime, before the freezing nights, while my wife was getting a massage (which she said WAS wonderful) I decided to try out the Canadian hot tub. It was FILTHY, airs everywhere and even a band aid floating in the bubbles.. they have made the pool/gym etc accessable to the public for a small membership fee and seems every Tom, Dick and Harry is using it. The pool was dirty, the Steam room grubby and cold and the sauna barely adequate, the showers were so grubby i decided to shower up in my room afterwards (which by now was luke warm) rather than use the ones there.

We went to the restaurant that night, food was excellent although the venue tacky, with horrible valenines decorations, which made it feel like a roadside cafe rather than upperclass restaurant. But as i said, the food was indeed great. Shame about the shabby false ceiling roof tiles...

So, upon check out and explaining our various complaints.. they agreed to knock €50 off our bill.. which really isn't acceptable seeing as 1) We paid a premium price for the beter rom AND due to the holiday weekend (Valentines) and 2) we spent two freezing nights and in the mornings had no hot water....

We won't be going back and urge you to take this review as an honest and frank account of what happened.. we went wanting and urging the Connemara coast hotel to do well, instead it failed miserably.

I have just returned from a 4 day break in the connemara Coast Hotel, having gone there with a group of over 50 people, no one could find fault with the hotel. The staff are friendly, especially the bar staff and the food is great, although service might be a little slow it is worth the wait. The rooms are comfortable and clean and decorated in a quaint style. The views are the best and the leisure centre and pool are a bonus. There are lots of walks in the area and you are not too far from Galway (€10 by taxi). There are several reception areas where you can sit by the fire and relax, even a library on the first floor balcony. I would diffinitely return there again.

3 Days of Peace and Tranquility

Myself and my husband have just returned from a wonderful short pre-Chrismas break away from the kids in this Hotel. We arrived to be met by a warm welcome on checkin ander a nice young man who brought us to our room. On exploring the Hotel we decided to Dine in their 'Adults Only' restaurant (No Kids - Wonderful Idea, but they also have a family restaurant which on a different visit would also be perfect for us) the food was exceptional, the pianist wonderful and the staff most helpfull and friendly.

The next morning we headed off on a drive to explore the wonderful sights of Connemara, Clifden, Kylemore Abbey, the place where the Quiet Man was made, and a nearby silvermines, returning to the hotel in the early afternoon for a Sauna and an exhilarating dip in their outdoor Hot Tub (What an experience), followed by an equally wonderful evening in the restaurant and a traditional ballad session in the bar later on (much!).

The following day we went shopping in the city which is about 15-20 mins drive away, lots of shops, mainstream (Marks etc.), quaint Craft Shops, Celtic Jewellery Stores, lovely market at the end of the main pedestrain area. After our day shopping we returned to the Hotel for a relaxing drink by the fire, and I had a stress relieving massage while my husband read by the fire. Later on we had dinner in a nearby Restaurant (down on the Pier). This restaurant is a must their Chocolate Fondant Desert is just to die for.

Our last day brought us on a short ferry trip (30 mins) to the nearby Aran Islands, Breathtaking views, lovely people, this place is a must if your in the area. For our last night we stayed in the hotel for dinner which again was as great as the previous night.

This Hotel is exceptional
* Near the City, In the Countryside
* Some of the most friendly and helpfull staff I have
ever met
* The views from our bedroom were breathtaking
* The leisure facilities at the Hotel are great
especially the hot tub.(perhaps larger massage
room)
* Well decorated and equiped bedroom (we upgraded to
an executive room which was worth every euro)

Overall an exceptional hotel in the perfect location
